Daytona 500 2023 Preview

The Great American Race is a 500-mile, 200-lap that traditionally serves as the biggest race of the season.

The purse for the event this year will be $27 million. Team Penske’s Austin Cindric won the race last year, while 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace finished a very close second. Michael McDowell won the race in 2021.

Two of the sport’s greatest drivers, Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski, have yet to won the Daytona 500 and both will be competing here. RFK Racing’s Keselowski will be competing in the race for the 14th time, while Busch has yet to win in 17 attempts.

“It’s just not happened yet for me,” Busch said. “Some guys, this is the only race they ever win. Other guys, they win it two or three times. It’s the Super Bowl of our sport, and it’s hard to accomplish this one.”

“I have six Talladega wins, which is great, but I’d like to have a Daytona 500 win to go with them,” Keselowski added. “I’ve been fortunate. I’ve had some good races and bad races on plate tracks — and everything in-between. I’m just really hungry to bring this one home. I’ve been so close the last few years. It’s been painful to walk away — not so much empty-handed — but without the trophy.”

Mike Joy, Clint Bowyer and Tony Stewart will serve as broadcasters for the event.
