Sutton and the Broncos agreed Thursday to restructure his contract, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Sutton previously was scheduled for $13.6 million and $14 million in the final two years of his contract. There was talk of a training camp holdout, but it never seemed especially likely and the Broncos have now placated their No. 1 receiver by adding $1.5 million in incentives for the upcoming season, per Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette. While TD regression is highly likely after Sutton scored on 10 of his 90 targets last year, he can make up for it with added volume in other areas of the field. The Broncos had a highly unusual offensive distribution last year, ranking 27th in pass attempts (513) but first in RB targets (153).

Gets contract restructure
![Team logo](https://heavy.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/denver-broncos-logo.png?w=150)
Slated to participate in camp
![Team logo](https://heavy.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/denver-broncos-logo.png?w=150)
With regard to Sutton's status for training camp, coach Sean Payton noted Tuesday that the wideout will "be here and ready to go," Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reports. There had been some speculation that Sutton's contract status could impact his training camp participation, but it appears as though Denver's top wide receiver will be out there with his teammates once practices commence. As the coming season approaches, Sutton tops a wide receiver corps that no longer includes Jerry Jeudy, which sets the stage for Josh Reynolds, Marvin Mims, Tim Patrick and Troy Franklin to compete for slotting behind Sutton as the summer progresses.
May still consider holdout
![Team logo](https://heavy.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/denver-broncos-logo.png?w=150)
Sutton is still unhappy with his contract and suggested Tuesday that he might consider holding out from training camp, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports. It would be unusual for a player to report to June minicamp (the first mandatory team activities of the year) and then hold out for the start of training camp. Sutton revealed earlier this week that he had minor ankle surgery in the offseason and was away from the team during OTAs as a result, but it sounds like displeasure with his contract may also have been a factor. While most of his Tuesday comments reflected optimism about eventually reaching an agreement, Sutton also said negotiations "are at a stalemate in a sense." He has two years remaining on his contract, scheduled for $13.6 million in compensation this season ($2 million) and $14 million next year (none guaranteed). Sutton's comments suggest he wants a contract extension, but it won't be shocking if he ultimately settles for an adjustment that adds guaranteed money without adding years. Meanwhile, there's no indication of his ankle still being a problem.
Had offseason surgery, feels good

Sutton said Tuesday he underwent ankle surgery earlier this offseason and was away from the team during OTAs as a result of his rehab, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports. Sutton added that he feels healthy for the beginning of June minicamp, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports. It was presumed that Sutton's absence during OTAs related mostly to ongoing talks on a contract extension, which he said Tuesday are still at a "stalemate." The wideout still has two years remaining on his deal with Denver, but with only $2 million in guarantees.
To attend minicamp
![Team logo](https://heavy.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/denver-broncos-logo.png?w=150)
Sutton said Thursday he will attend Denver's mandatory minicamp after having skipped voluntary OTAs, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports. Sutton trained privately and away from the team during OTAs, but he'll be present for the start of mandatory offseason activities next week. The wideout still appears to desire a new contract, as only $2 million is guaranteed of the roughly $27.6 million remaining on his current deal, which ties him with the Broncos for the next two season. Following the trade of Jerry Jeudy to the Browns earlier this offseason, Sutton is positioned as the clear top target for whoever starts at QB this season, making him an especially key factor for Denver's offense. Behind Sutton on the depth chart are Josh Reynolds, Marvin Mims, Tim Patrick (Achilles) and Troy Franklin.
No concern about OTA absence
![Team logo](https://heavy.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/denver-broncos-logo.png?w=150)
Broncos GM George Paton suggested Thursday that he isn't worried about Sutton's absence from voluntary offseason workouts, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports. "It's 100 percent voluntary," Paton said. "It's the first week of the offseason program. I've talked to Courtland. He's in a good place, and I'll just leave it at that." Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported Tuesday that Sutton's absence from voluntary OTAs is related to wanting a new contract. The wideout has two years and approximately $27.6 million remaining on his current deal, with only $2 million of that guaranteed. It's not the type of situation with especially high risk for a holdout, and Sutton looks to be especially important for Denver's offense after the team traded WR Jerry Jeudy to Cleveland in the offseason. It's not yet clear who will start across from Sutton at wide receiver, nor is it clear who will get the nod under center Week 1. The Broncos still have a lot to work out this spring and summer, with the upcoming NFL Draft presumably being a piece of that puzzle.
Not at voluntary OTAs
![Team logo](https://heavy.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/denver-broncos-logo.png?w=150)
Sutton wants a new contract and hasn't reported to voluntary OTAs, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Sutton has two seasons remaining on a four-year, $60 million extension, scheduled for a $13 million base salary in 2024 ($2 million guaranteed) and then $13.5 million in 2025 (no guarantees). He scored a career-high 10 touchdowns in 16 games last season, though 90 targets were his fewest since 2020 -- the year he suffered an ACL tear Week 1 -- and he still hasn't come close to matching his career-high 1,112 yards from 2019. The 28-year-old won't necessarily hold out from mandatory team activities later this spring, but the situation is at least worth keeping an eye on until he gets an extension or contract adjustment, or otherwise reports to the Broncos. There's been no indication of his Week 18 ankle injury lingering into the offseason, with the main concern at this point being the lack of a starting-caliber QB on Denver's roster. The team also appears thin at wide receiver, where the starting job across from Sutton could end up going to any of Josh Reynolds, Marvin Mims, Tim Patrick (Achilles) or Brandon Johnson.
