Smartt caught all three of his targets for 37 yards in the 34-27 win over the Broncos on Thursday. Hayden Hurst returned off injured reserve after missing the past five weeks due to a hip injury, but the veteran played only eight snaps, hardly carving into Smartt's playing time. In addition, Will Dissly appears closer to returning after missing the past two games due to a shoulder injury, which would also relegate Smartt to at minimum the No. 2 spot in the tight end rotation come Week 16. Given the compiling playing time factors, Smartt's run as a productive fantasy option could be coming to a close.

Three receptions in win
Nearly leads team in receving
Smartt pulled in five of six targets for 50 receiving yards while losing a fumble in Sunday's 40-17 loss to Tampa Bay. Smartt continued to operate as the Chargers' top tight end sans veteran starter Will Dissly (shoulder). The third-year man fell just eight yards short of the team lead in receiving behind Ladd McConkey (5-58-1). Smartt did cough up the first fumble of his career in the lopsided loss, putting a damper on an otherwise fine fantasy showing. With Dissly expected to miss multiple weeks, Smartt could be a bargain at the tight end position in Week 16.
Set for significant playing bump
Smartt is set for a bump in playing time with Will Dissly (shoulder) likely out multiple weeks, Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reports. Hayden Hurst (hip) is technically eligible to return off injured reserve by Week 16, but given there's been zero updates regarding the health of the veteran, Smartt effectively has a clear shot at the No. 1 tight end role with Dissly expected to be out. Smartt played a season-high 22 snaps and parlayed that into three receptions for 54 yards, mostly in the absence of Dissly. The 26-year-old has mainly been a rotational piece in his three-year career, but the 2022 undrafted free agent hasn't had this sort of opportunity to emerge as a fantasy relevant piece.
Ready for Sunday night
Smartt (ankle) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Bengals. Smartt was sidelined for each of the Chargers' last two games due to an ankle injury likely sustained in Week 8's win over the Saints. However, he practiced in full Friday and is now in line to return to the field Sunday. Expect Smartt to serve as a depth piece in the Chargers' tight end room in Week 11, playing behind both Hayden Hurst and Will Dissly.
Limited in practice Wednesday
Smartt (ankle) was listed as a limited practice participant Wednesday. Smartt has been sidelined for the Chargers' last two regular-season games due to an ankle injury. He'll have two more chances this week to increase his practice participation ahead of Sunday's game against Cincinnati.
Won't play Week 10
Smartt (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's game against Tennessee, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports. Smartt has been limited in practice all week due to an ankle injury, but he hasn't progressed enough to suit up Sunday. His next chance to play will be Week 11 against the Bengals on Sunday, Nov. 17. Tucker Fisk was elevated from the Chargers practice squad to the active roster Saturday, and he will serve as the No. 3 tight end behind Will Dissly and Hayden Hurst.
Could return Sunday
Smartt (ankle) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Titans. Smartt practiced in a limited fashion throughout the week after missing the Chargers' Week 9 win over the Browns due to an ankle injury. The 26-year-old is expected to play behind both Will Dissly and Hayden Hurst if he can suit up in Week 10.
Limited to open week
Smartt (ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. Smartt was unable to practice all of last week due to an ankle injury, which caused him to be sidelined for Week 9 against the Browns. He was able to return to practice Wednesday, and he'll have two more chances to increase his participation ahead of Sunday's game against the Titans.
Inactive Sunday
Smartt (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's matchup with the Browns. No surprise here, as Smartt was deemed doubtful for Sunday's contest. He was unable to practice throughout the week due to an ankle injury. In his absence, Hayden Hurst and Eric Tomlinson will be the backup options at tight end behind Will Dissly.
