Rayshawn Jenkins Latest News
Nine stops in win
Jenkins recorded nine total tackles (four solo) in Sunday's 23-20 overtime win versus the Patriots. Jenkins played every one of the team's defensive snaps against New England, leading Seattle with nine takedowns. Through two games this year, the safety has compiled 15 total tackles (10 solo) and he'll look to keep it up in Week 3 against Miami.
Past calf injury
Jenkins (calf) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Broncos, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports. The first-year Seahawk was held to limited participation earlier in the week due to a calf issue, but it now appears he's recovered in time for Sunday's contest. Expect Jenkins to start alongside Julian Love as part of Seattle's top safety duo in 2024.
Limited at practice
Jenkins (calf) was a limited participant at Seattle's practice Wednesday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports. Jenkins appears to be dealing with some form of a calf issue ahead of Week 1, popping up on the team's initial injury report. The safety will have two more chances to increase his participation level at practice prior to Sunday's matchup with the Broncos.
Officially joining Seattle
Jenkins and the Seahawks agreed on a two-year contract, $12 million contract Wednesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. Jenkins will officially head to Seattle after spending the last three seasons in Jacksonville, most recently recording 101 tackles, including 1.0 sacks, while also intercepting two passes and deflecting nine others over 17 games in 2023. He'll likely replace Quandre Diggs as the team's starting free safety in 2024 after Diggs was released.
Signing with Seahawks
Jenkins with the Seahawks on Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of ESPN reports. Jenkins was released by the Jaguars as a cap casualty earlier this month but will now get another chance in Seattle. The 2017 fourth-round pick tallied 101 tackles (66 solo) and two interceptions in 17 games played last season and should have a chance to compete for the starting safety spot opposite Julian Love.
Being let go by Jags
Jacksonville plans to release Jenkins, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Jenkins' release will save the Jaguars roughly $5.1 million against the cap, while the team's other announced cut of veteran cornerback Darious Williams will save the team roughly $10 million. In each of his last two seasons Jenkins has played all 17 games and turned in a triple-digit tackling effort, so he should garner real interest as a free agent. Antonio Johnson, a 2023 fifth-round pick, will be a candidate to replace Jenkins in the starting lineup.
Ties season high in tackles
It's the most total tackles Jenkins has managed this year since Week 7 at New Orleans. He's had a slightly underwhelming campaign so far compared to the huge numbers he posted last season, but he's still on the IDP radar heading into a Week 13 matchup versus the Bengals.
