Active at practice
Johnson (knee) has been an active participant at the Panthers' training camp this week, Liam McKeone of SI.com reports. Johnson suffered a knee injury in mid-June, but he appears to have made a full recovery. The 25-year-old is battling to crack Carolina's active roster as a depth option at weakside linebacker in 2024.
Avoids serious injury
Johnson's knee injury isn't considered serious, Joe Person of The Athletic reports. Johnson was carted off the field during Panthers' minicamp last week with what was initially thought to be a calf injury, but it's now been clarified to be a knee issue. The second-year linebacker out of Oregon appeared in 13 games and made 16 total tackles during his rookie campaign, and he's expected to compete for a depth role on Carolina's defense once he's past his knee injury.
Avoids significant injury
Johnson (calf) will be sidelined for the remainder of minicamp this week, but should be ready for training camp, David Newton of ESPN.com reports. Johnson left practice early Tuesday after suffering what was initially reported as a knee injury and had to be carted off the field. Fortunately, for the second-year pro, it appears the injury is not serious with the Panthers expecting him to be ready for training camp.
Injured during practice
Johnson (knee) was carted off the field during practice Tuesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports. Johnson wasn't heavily involved during his rookie campaign and now could be dealing with a significant setback in his attempt to make a bigger impact in 2024. However, the type and severity of the Oregon product's injury are still unknown until what will likely be further testing takes place.
Out for game
The backup linebacker left the field on a cart earlier in the game. Johnson did not record a stat Sunday and has just 14 tackles on the season.
Exits Sunday's game
Johnson went back to the locker room on a cart along with guard Chandler Zavala (knee). Johnson did not record a stat before exiting the game.
Starting Sunday
Head coach Frank Reich told reporters the rookie linebacker out of Oregon has shown improvement throughout the year, and he's in line to make the first start of his career this Sunday. Johnson has played a limited role on Carolina's defense thus far, and through his first four games, the 25-year-old has recorded six total tackles, including one tackle for loss.
