Shepard reverted to Tampa Bay's practice squad Monday. Shepard didn't record any stats during Sunday's loss to the Broncos despite playing four snaps on offense. If Kameron Johnson (ankle) isn't good to go versus the Eagles next week, Shepard could be elevated for the second straight week.

Sterling Shepard Latest News
Reverts to practice squad
Shepard reverted to Tampa Bay's practice squad Monday. Shepard didn't record any stats during Sunday's loss to the Broncos despite playing four snaps on offense. If Kameron Johnson (ankle) isn't good to go versus the Eagles next week, Shepard could be elevated for the second straight week.
Elevated for Week 3
The Buccaneers elevated Shepard from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. After spending the first eight years of his NFL career with the Giants, Shepard signed with the Buccaneers in June. While he wasn't able to make the 53-man roster at the end of training camp, the 2016 second-round pick opted to stick around in Tampa Bay on the practice squad. With Kameron Johnson (ankle) ruled out for Sunday's game against the Broncos, Shepard's elevation to the active roster will provide depth in the Bucs' wide receiver corps behind Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan and Trey Palmer.
Sticking on practice squad
Shepard signed with the Buccaneers' practice squad Tuesday, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports. Shepard cleared waivers after being released as part of Tampa Bay's final roster cuts Monday. The 31-year-old will now stick with the team on the practice squad, where he should serve as one of the top options to move up to the actice roster if the Buccaneers are in need of extra receiver depth at some point this regular season. Shepard appeared in 15 regular-season games for the Giants in 2023, catching 10 passes for 57 yards and one touchdown.
Dropped by Tampa Bay
The Buccaneers released Shepard on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Shepard inked a deal with the Buccaneers in June after spending the first eight seasons of his career with the Giants, but it now appears that Tampa Bay has decided to part ways with the veteran wideout. According to Rapoport, the Buccaneers are holding a spot for Shepard on the team's practice squad if the 31-year-old clears waivers.
Unlikely to play Friday
Shepard (undisclosed) is not likely to suit up for the Buccaneers' preseason finale against the Dolphins on Friday, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports. An unspecified injury has kept Shepard from playing in either of the Bucs' first two preseason games, and it appears he will also sit out for the preseason finale Friday. Despite missing an extended amount of time, the 2016 second-round pick is expected to make Tampa Bay's 53-man roster as a backup wide receiver behind Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Jalen McMillan. Shepard signed a one-year deal with the Bucs in June after spending the first eight years of his NFL career with the Giants.
Returns to practice
Shepard (undisclosed) practiced Tuesday while wearing a black non-contact jersey, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports. Shepard's return to the field is good news, but his limited availability should keep him questionable for Friday's game against the Dolphins.
Dealing with undisclosed injury
Shepard, who did not play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Bengals, is dealing with an unspecified injury and didn't practice Monday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. Smith notes the wideout actually began missing practice time in the days leading up to the game versus Cincinnati. Shepard, who was a college teammate of Baker Mayfield, was brought in to offer veteran depth, although he may realistically serve as no more than a No. 5 receiver given the promising play of both rookie Jalen McMillan and second-year wideout Trey Palmer.
Links up with Tampa
Shepard agreed to a one-year contract with the Buccaneers on Thursday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Shepard spent the past eight years with the Giants, playing 90 of a possible 131 regular-season games. He's had a hard time staying healthy for years now, but until last season he consistently drew targets whenever available. After catching just 10 passes in 15 games last season, the 31-year-old will compete for a depth role with Tampa Bay.
Full participant at practice
Shepard's full participation comes one day after logging a limited workload. Barring any setbacks, he looks on track to suit up in Sunday's matchup with the Patriots. The pass catcher has seen more playing time in recent weeks, but is still seen as the third or fourth option at best in New York's receiving roation.
