The Bears placed Scales (back) on the reserve/injured list Thursday, Larry Mayer of the team's official site reports. The veteran long snapper sustained a back injury in early August, which kept him out of the Bears' last three preseason games. He'll be forced to sit for a minimum of four games, making Week 5 against the Panthers on Oct. 6 the earliest he can return.

Dealing with back injury
Head coach Matt Eberflus said Thursday that Scales is sidelined with a back injury, Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Scales has missed several days of practice due to the back issue, but Eberflus noted that the long snapper is "on track" to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Bills. If Scales cannot suit up, Cameron Lyons is slated to fill in as the long snapper for the exhibition matchup.
