Gets two-way deal with Memphis
Castleton signed a two-way contract with the Grizzlies on Wednesday, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports. Castleton replaces Jay Huff as a two-way signee representing depth at the center position after Memphis converted Huff to a standard roster spot Monday. Castleton made 16 NBA appearances with the Lakers last year totaling 59 minutes of action.
Stuffs stat sheet in SL
Castleton logged 17 points (8-9 FG, 1-1 FT), 12 rebounds, six assists and two steals across 24 minutes of Wednesday's 87-86 win over Atlanta in Summer League. Castleton flashed his versatile skill set, dishing out six assists while posting a double-double. The second-year pro did turn the ball over five times, but he led the Lakers in scoring, and four of his 12 rebounds came on the offensive glass. Castleton served on a two-way contract last season for the Lakers and averaged 3.7 minutes across 16 regular-season NBA appearances.
Plays in garbage time in return
Castleton (wrist) played the final 1:19 of Wednesday's 136-124 win over the Grizzlies and didn't record any statistics during his time on the court. Castleton, one of the Lakers' three two-way players, was cleared to return to action Wednesday after he hadn't appeared at the NBA or G League level since Feb. 10 while recovering from a fractured right wrist. Even with Anthony Davis (knee) sidelined for the second leg of a back-to-back set, the rookie big man out of Florida remained out of head coach Darvin Ham's rotation, as the Lakers relied mostly on small-ball lineups when fill-in starting center Jaxson Hayes (31 minutes) was off the court.
Set to return Wednesday
Castleton (wrist) isn't on the injury report for Wednesday's game versus the Grizzlies. Castleton hasn't played since Feb. 14 due to a fractured right wrist but is available to play Wednesday. However, the 23-year-old big man is unlikely to receive significant playing time.
Out indefinitely with broken wrist
Castleton is expected to miss multiple weeks after he recently suffered a fractured right wrist, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports. Castleton, one of the Lakers' two-way players, hasn't seen any game action at the G League or NBA level since Feb. 14, but it's unclear when exactly he suffered the injury. The fractured wrist comes at an inconvenient time for Castleton, who may have had an outside chance to push Jaxson Hayes for the top backup role at center with his other competitor for the job, Christian Wood (knee) already facing a multi-week absence of his own. The undrafted rookie out of Florida had made just seven appearances for Los Angeles this season but has been a standout performer for the G League's South Bay Lakers when available, averaging 16.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.6 blocks and 0.9 steals in 28.8 minutes per game over 24 appearances.
