Davis rushed once for 12 yards and returned three kickoffs for 69 yards in Sunday's 37-15 loss to the Steelers. Davis has played almost exclusively on special teams in his rookie season, but he got a carry on the final play of this lopsided loss and turned it into the longest offensive play of his young career. The 2024 fifth-round draft pick out of South Dakota State remains behind Breece Hall and Braelon Allen on the Jets' backfield depth chart.

Isaiah Davis Latest News
Career-long 12-yard run
Davis rushed once for 12 yards and returned three kickoffs for 69 yards in Sunday's 37-15 loss to the Steelers. Davis has played almost exclusively on special teams in his rookie season, but he got a carry on the final play of this lopsided loss and turned it into the longest offensive play of his young career. The 2024 fifth-round draft pick out of South Dakota State remains behind Breece Hall and Braelon Allen on the Jets' backfield depth chart.
Gets first NFL carries
Davis rushed three times for six yards and wasn't targeted in Thursday's 24-3 win over the Patriots. He also had a 27-yard kickoff return. After being limited to special teams work in his first two NFL games, Davis got the first three carries of his NFL career, as the Jets mixed him in after getting some breathing room on the scoreboard. Davis is a distant third on the team's running back depth chart heading into Week 4 against the Broncos, behind Breece Hall and Braelon Allen, the latter of whom was selected one round before Davis in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Limited to special teams
Davis didn't record a carry or target in Monday's 32-19 loss to the 49ers. Davis played exclusively on special teams in his NFL debut, while fellow rookie Braelon Allen backed up Breece Hall and got his first two career touches. It's encouraging that Davis dressed as the Jets' third running back ahead of Israel Abanikanda, but Davis isn't part of New York's game plan on offense at this stage of his career.
First touches Saturday
Davis rushed the ball four times for 14 yards in Saturday's 15-12 preseason win over the Panthers. He added one reception on one target for zero yards. Davis looks to be third on the Jets' running back depth chart behind Breece Hall and Braelon Allen, though he did get the first reps out of the backfield Saturday. His biggest gain of the day came on his opening carry, which went for nine yards. Davis was a strong receiver in his final two years at South Dakota State, a skillset that could help him see the field occasionally on obvious passing downs once the regular season begins.
Four catches in preseason opener
Davis rushed four times for eight yards and caught all four of his targets for 33 yards in Saturday's 20-17 preseason win over the Commanders. He added a 29-yard kickoff return and two punt returns for six yards. Davis was the second running back to enter the game for the Jets after fellow rookie Braelon Allen got the start with Breece Hall resting on the sideline. While Davis didn't do much on the ground, he flashed some decent pass catching skills and showcased his versatility by contributing on special teams. It's also significant that the 2024 fifth-round draft pick checked into the game before 2023 fifth-round pick Israel Abanikanda, who entered in the third quarter and scored a two-yard touchdown in the fourth. Holding off Abanikanda for the third spot on the depth chart is Davis' easiest path to securing a roster spot, and how they perform in next Saturday's preseason game against the Panthers could help determine the outcome of that competition.
Getting first-team snaps
Davis has been getting a lot of snaps with the starting offense at OTAs, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports. Breece Hall's minor lower-body injury has opened up opportunities for Davis, a fifth-round pick, as well as fellow rookie Braelon Allen (a fourth-rounder). Hughes further revealed that Allen has also made a good early impression, with his receiving work in particular being a pleasant surprise after he had only 275 receiving yards in three seasons as the lead back at Wisconsin. The two rookies seem to be competing with 2023 fifth-round pick Israel Abanikanda for the second spot on the depth chart -- a role that probably won't come with many snaps or touches unless Hall misses time. The Jets also have Tarik Cohen as a potential passing-down specialist, though special teams might offer his more realistic path to a roster spot
