Soon to be 47 year-old Randy Couture has grand plans ahead of him. Just two days ago he announced that he would be facing boxing champion James Toney at UFC 118 in Boston. Now he is setting his eyes on a bigger prize- the UFC Light Heavyweight championship to be exact.
During the same interview he conducted with MMA Weekly Radio, Couture made his intentions quite clear- he wants a crack at the winner of this weekends rematch between UFC Light Heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and challenger Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
Couture has held the 205lb title on two separate occasions. He has also captured the organizations heavyweight title three times but that doesn’t seem to be enough for the man they call “The Natural.”
Time is not exactly on Couture’s side here and that is why he is focusing on challenging the winner sometime in the next six months. He will be cageside in Montreal on Saturday night watching and undoubtedly making mental notes on a possible future opponent.
