Electronic Arts and the Ultimate Fighting Championship have partnered together for the newest game in the MMA/fighting game genre – EA SPORTS UFC. Gamers can expect to take their favorite fighters and custom-created warriors into the digital Octagon for some knockouts and submissions.
But the one main character that gamers all over the world will truly appreciate playing with is the father of mixed martial arts, the legendary Bruce Lee. Lee will be offered as day-one DLC for EA Sports UFC upon releasing in Australia (June 19) and New Zealand (June 20). Fans can also unlock Bruce Lee by completing the game’s career mode on Pro difficulty and use him in four different weight classes.
Shannon Lee, daughter of Bruce Lee, CEO of Bruce Lee, LLC and Chairperson of the Bruce Lee Foundation offered her thoughts on seeing such a legendary figure in videogame form:
I am so excited about this opportunity to bring my father back to videogames! I’m thrilled that fans can now interact with him in a new way. The EA SPORTS UFC development team has been incredible to work with, and they’ve done a great job capturing the look and feel of my father. I think people will love getting a chance to fulfill a fight fantasy by playing Bruce Lee in the new UFC game.
UFC president Dana White also provided some comments on the inclusion of Bruce Lee into his company’s new game:
There’s no debate, Bruce Lee is the father of mixed martial arts. He believed not one style of fighting was the best and that you had to have a little piece of everything to be a complete fighter. He was proven right when the first UFC event took place in 1993.
And finally, Creative Director at Electronic Arts Brian Hayes spoke about the development team’s decision to add Bruce Lee into the game:
It has always been part of our vision to have Bruce Lee, the most iconic martial artist of all time, in the first ever EA SPORTS UFC. The team is very excited and tremendously honored to have the privilege of bringing Bruce Lee to life in our game. We’ve been working closely with the Bruce Lee team to ensure we represent the legend with as much visual and gameplay fidelity as possible.
Along with Bruce Lee, gamers can also select MMA legends such as BJ Penn and Anderson Silva. Check out the screenshots below to get a look at these in-game fighters and the official box art for EA SPORTS UFC:
