Tinder recently updated their app to include some Snapchat-inspired features. With some similar features, which of these two apps is best for sexting and dating? Here’s how these two popular apps compare.
1. Snapchat vs. Tinder: Self-Destructing Photos
Check out one guy’s experience with Tinder dating in the video above.
As of Version 4.0, Tinder includes features that seem to be inspired by Snapchat. The App Store description explains:
“Introducing Moments — a new way to share! Moments are swipe-able photos that you instantly share with all of your matches at once. Apply filters, draw, and add text to your Moments. See who likes your Moment and start a conversation. Just like real life, Moments are fleeting — they can be seen by all your matches for 24 hours.”
That means that both Snapchat and Tinder now offer “self-destructing” images that delete automatically after certain conditions have been met. Tinder’s photos in Moments have a shelf-life of 24 hours. While Snapchat “Snaps” originally had a shelf life of 10 seconds, images in Snapchat Stories can last for 24 hours.
2. Snapchat vs. Tinder: Interface
The video report above from Channel 4 explores Snapchat’s relationship with sexting.
Both Snapchat and Tinder have nice interfaces that are fairly easy to navigate, though some Snapchat users disliked the interface changes made during the last big update (the update that introduced video and text features.)
The Tinder interface is almost addictive. As any Tinder fan can tell you, it’s easy to fall into a constant pattern of swiping as you browse people. Snapchat has an interface that’s a bit more complex, but it’s also a bit more feature-rich.
3. Snapchat vs. Tinder: Security
The video above outlines some of Tinder’s downsides.
In both Snapchat and Tinder, one of the primary concerns is security. You don’t want images that should have self-destructed to show up somewhere else, particularly if you’re sharing racing images or conversations.
Snapchat’s App Store page reminds users: “ Even though Snaps, Chats, and Stories are deleted from our servers after they expire, we cannot prevent recipient(s) from capturing and saving the message by taking a screenshot or using an image capture device.” As always, Snap with caution.
As we noted in a comparison of Tinder and OkCupid, Tinder was hacked earlier this year, exposing the location data of its users.
As always, the most perfect protection for preventing your sexy pics from getting leaked is to not send them out in the first place.
4. Snapchat vs. Tinder: Social Networking
The video above outlines some of the hidden features of Snapchat.
Tinder shows you matches based on your extended social circle on Facebook: You’ll see your friends, as well as the friends of your friends. It’s hard to change some settings: if you block a user or decline a match, it is permanent action that can’t be undone at a later date.
In contrast, Snapchat lets you search for friends, add Snapchat users who have added you, or pull in people from your contacts list. Snapchat also offers a handy “Best Friends” organizational feature. Best Friends are updated on a weekly basis and represent the friends you Snap with most frequently.
5. Snapchat vs. Tinder: Conclusion
The funny video above shows what Tinder would be like in real life.
With the addition of new features, Tinder is a serious contender in the ephemeral messaging sphere. That being said, because Tinder’s new Moments feature makes an image available to all your matches it may not be the best option for those looking for a more intimate sexting experience. While both apps have merit as a fun way to connect with people in your extended social circle, Snapchat may be more appealing for some saucy textures. Ultimately, it will come down to your personal preference for the interface and features in these two apps.
