Final Score: Giants 30, Falcons 20
The New York Giants defeated the Atlanta Falcons after trailing for most of the first three quarters. However, the Giants dominated the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Here’s how it happened.
Giants Strike First, But Atlanta Fights Back
New York scored first when quarterback Eli Manning hit wide receiver Rueben Randle for a three-yard touchdown pass.
But Atlanta tied the game shortly after that when Steven Jackson ran in from 10 yards out.
The Falcons then hit two field goals in the second quarter – both from 20 yards – while New York hit one, to give Atlanta a 13-10 halftime lead.
Falcons Score on Long Pass in 3rd Quarter
Atlanta extended its lead to 20-10 when Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan found Antone Smith for a 74-yard touchdown. Smith was initially wrapped up behind the line of scrimmage on the screen pass, but broke loose for the long touchdown.
Beckham Jr.’s First Career TD Puts Giants Ahead
After running back Andrew Williams closed Atlanta’s lead to three points after a three-yard touchdown run, New York took the lead when quarterback Eli Manning found Odell Beckham Jr. in the end zone to give New York a 24-20 lead. It was Beckham Jr.’s, who was the 12th overall selection in this year’s NFL Draft, first career touchdown.
The Giants then tacked on two more field goals before the end of the game.
Preview
After a dominating win at Washington last week, the New York Giants (2-2) are looking for their first winning record since the end of the 2012. They face an Atlanta team that comes in with the same record, but has been extremely inconsistent so far this season.
