Hereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee’s Johnny!
On Tuesday, Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine announced that current starting quarterback Brian Hoyer was being benched in favor of 2014 1st round pick Johnny Manziel. Manziel was the 22nd overall pick in May’s NFL Draft.
Hoyer has largely struggled over his last three games, leading a drive that ended in a TD pass just one time in his last 56 attempts.
Two weeks ago, Hoyer was benched when the Browns were down to the Buffalo Bills 20-3. Manziel came in for relief and ran for a touchdown…
…but also lost a fumble that resulted in a Bills’ touchdown, and the Browns ultimately lost that game 26-10.
Pettine called Sunday’s passing game against the Indianapolis Colts in a 25-24 loss “sub-standard” and added:
“There are clearly some throws that he missed, but I think it was also exaggerated by how poorly we were in the pass game around him. We always say it, ‘A quarterback is only as good as his supporting cast.’ When the guys around him play well, Brian will play well. It’s rare that there’s a quarterback that can transcend his supporting cast.”
The never-ending QB carousel in Cleveland continues.
