A featherweight match up between submission fighters Javier Vazquez and Mackens Semerzier is reportedly in the making for a slot on the upcoming WEC 50.
News of the match up was reported by Versus.com, who learned of verbal agreements between the fighters from sources close to the event.
Semerzier first made a name for himself when he defeated the dominant Wagnney Fabiano at WEC 43 via submission. However, he failed to build off the biggest victory of his young career, dropping a unanimous decision to Deividas Taurosevicius at WEC 46 this past January.
Vazquez, one of the most experienced Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners in the featherweight division, debuted in the WEC at WEC 42 with a loss to L.C. Davis. The loss, a narrow split-decision, was followed by another to Deividas Taurosevicius at WEC 43. Vazquez finally found his first victory in the promotion when he submitted Jens Pulver in the first round of their WEC 47 bout.
WEC 50 is set for The Pearl at the Palm in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 18. The card features a bantamweight championship fight between champion Dominick Cruz and top contender Joseph Benavidez, along with Urijah Faber’s drop down to the bantamweight division where he will face off against Takeya Mizugaki.
