It has been a roller-coaster the past couple of years for Hope Solo, who has gone from one of the most popular, marketable soccer stars in the world to a player shrouded in controversy.

Still, she remains one of the best goalkeepers in the world with a chance at winning her first World Cup title. All things considered, things aren’t going too bad for her.

1. Her Net Worth Is Estimated at $2.5 Million

These estimates are always fairly rough, but both CelebrityNetWorth.com and TheRichest.com put Solo’s net worth at $2.5 million.

Playing for the Seattle Reign in addition to the USWNT, her salary, according to Time.com, is somewhere between $22,000 and $65,000. That would suggest a great deal of her earnings come from endorsements, which isn’t surprising considering her combination of supreme talent, commercial appeal and immense popularity in the late 2000’s and early 2010’s.

However…

2. She Said She Lost Her Endorsements Amid a Domestic Violence Controversy

In June of 2014, Solo was arrested on two counts of domestic violence in the fourth degree after an incident involving her half-sister and 17-year-old nephew. She was ultimately cleared of the charges, but the controversy did serious damage to her reputation, and in turn, her endorsements.

“At this point, I have lost my endorsements,” said Solo.

It’s unclear, however, if she has lost all of them. In September, Nike stood behind her, saying, “we are aware of the allegations and that Hope Solo has pled not guilty to the charges. Hope remains a Nike athlete and we will continue to monitor the situation.”

Forbes’ Patrick Rishe wrote that before the domestic abuse violations, Solo, who has had deals with Gatorade, EA Sports, BlackBerry and others, could have brought in $10-12 million in endorsement deals. That number, however, has surely diminished at least somewhat.

Capitalizing on the publicity from the United States’ gold-medal win in 2012, Solo released a book shortly afterwards, titled, Solo: A Memoir of Hope. The autobiography debuted at No. 3 on the New York Times’ bestseller list, which, at the time, was the highest ever for a soccer book.

Acclaimed for its honesty on an array of different topics, the book has generally received positive reviews.

3. She Owns a $1.2 Million House

Shortly after winning her second gold medal at the 2012 Olympics, Solo bought herself a $1.2 million home in Kirland, Washington. The house, which is 5,330 square feet with four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, comes complete with an outdoor pool, hot tub, wet bar, vaulted ceilings and an athletic court.

4. She Appeared on ‘Dancing With The Stars’ in 2011

Solo’s increasing popularity got another boost in 2011, when she appeared on the popular television show, “Dancing With the Stars.” Paired with Maksim Chmerkovskiy, she made it to the semifinals before being eliminated.

In her book, she revealed that Chmerkovskiy slapped her during rehearsals.

5. She Has Graced the Cover of Several Magazines

Among others, Solo has appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated, Vogue, Fitness Magazine and Newsweek. She was also a major part of ESPN The Magazine‘s increasingly popular Body Issue in 2011.
