Just over one month after Ed Ratcliff was forced to withdraw from his WEC 49 bout with Chris Horodecki, it seems the two will actually meet after all. A bout between the top 155-pounders has been set for WEC 51 this September.
MMAjunkie.com learned of the match up from sources close to the event earlier today.
Ratcliff, a five-fight veteran of the promotion, faced off against Donald Cerrone in his last appearance in the cage, losing via submission in the third round of the contest. The loss pushed his record in the WEC to a mediocre 3-2, as he looks to take another step forward in the competitive division.
While Ratcliff was forced off the WEC 49 card, Horodecki remained on it, facing last minute replacement Danny Downes and dominating him en route to a rear naked choke submission victory in the third round. The win, his first with the promotion, came after a disappointing technical knockout loss in his WEC debut to Anthony Njokuani.
Uncertainty remains whether or not the bout will make the televised portion of the September 30 event in Broomfield, Colorado. The card is expected to feature a main event between WEC featherweight champion Jose Aldo and top contender Manny Gamburyan, along with Miguel Torres vs. Charlie Valencia and Donald Cerrone vs. Jamie Varner.
