If you like blood, gore, and guts, this week’s new DVD releases are for you. We’ve got Sam Worthington chopping up some Greek gods and Jude Law taking organs back from unsuspecting debtors. All this and more you can bring home on DVD and Blu-Ray. Let’s get to the new releases.
Clash Of The Titans – This was sort of unfairly treated in the theaters because of the 3D post-processing that was applied to it. While I’m all for 3D in movies, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to try and add it after the fact, and the effects sort of muddied the waters on what is a pretty sweet little action film. When Hades, the lord of the Underworld, rises up against Zeus, ruler of the Greek pantheon, it’s up to noble Perseus to get in the middle and prevent everybody from being destroyed. Watch the trailer.
Repo Men – If you miss the days of futuristic chase movies like Logan’s Run, this will scratch that itch just fine, with a shake of gory dystopia thrown into the mix. Jude Law plays a repo man, a representative of an artificial organ company that provides longer life at a very steep cost. But when he finds himself on the wrong end of the company’s services and unable to pay, the repo becomes the repee (I don’t think that’s a word) and gets very familiar with the dark side of the fake guts industry. Watch the trailer.
Vincere – If distant past or far future action isn’t scratching your itch, why not take a chance on this drama about the first wife of notorious Italian Fascist Benito Mussolini. Il Duce was one of the most notorious scumbags in human history, and that apparently extended to his private life as well, as he fathered a child by Ida Dalser, who claimed that her marriage to the pint-size Fascist was real, despite being shocked by meeting his second wife. Classy.
