E! is reporting that Wu-Tang Clan member RZA has managed to get Russell Crowe to sign on to the rapper’s feature film directing debut, The Man With the Iron Fist.
RZA and Crowe met three years ago on the set of the Ridley Scott film American Gangster. In a case of truth being stranger than fiction, the two even cut a track for the soundtrack, but the producers of the disc decided to cut it from the finished product. After finding out about this, I will curse the heavens in Capt. Kirk Wrath of Khan style until it is mine. The two are also in the upcoming Paul Haggis film The Next Three Days, to be released November 19th. Fellas, just do a buddy cop movie already!
RZA will star in Fist as a blacksmith who makes weapons in feudal China. Crowe’s character isn’t exactly clear yet, other than in RZA’s words, “I won’t spoil it for you, but Russell’s gonna be the baddest man alive.” It sounds like Crowe is going to need to hit the gym to prepare for this role.
The movie will begin filming in Shanghai in December. Eli Roth (Hostel) will be a co-producer and co-writer on the film.
