Music For: Summer

Indeed, as broad as that can be, these are sounds for sunshine. Timing and relevance have something to do it, but more so this round up is tonal, simply aligning the warm beats with the warm breeze. Off we go…

[BoxTitle]Gracie: For Summer EP[/BoxTitle] [MusicVideos target="blank"]http://vimeo.com/24970012[/MusicVideos] [FreeDownload]http://absentfever.bandcamp.com/[/FreeDownload]

A proud chillwave child, Philadelphia’s Andew Balasia is pretty direct with intent (see: EP title). His five tracks vary in pace, from hula hoop to hammock, jumping through genres with ease, all coated in a smooth, tropic finish. The release is free through digital label Absent Fever (run by excellent blogs verb/re/verb and Flashlight Tag) which has quickly become one of the premiere resources for budding artists.

[BoxTitle]Mustang: June 11 Mixtape[/BoxTitle] [FreeDownload]http://soundcloud.com/mustang-2/mustang-june-11-mixtape[/FreeDownload]

This Belgium dance duo made a name for themselves working the remix circuit and dropping monthly mixes. June’s edition is a sure shot, cutting tricked out jams from the likes of Toro Y Moi, Matias Aguayo, and Jamie XX/Gil Scott-Heron with a steady club disco flow.

[BoxTitle]Co La: Dial Tone Earth[/BoxTitle] [Listen]http://soundcloud.com/friendsrecords/co-la-dial-tone-earth[/Listen]

Self proclaimed “Pop Music For Dream Life” (one excerpt of a splendidly creative press blurb), Dial Tone Earth is a seamless and transportive stream of hazed reggae consciousness. Reserve this one for solo excursions or communal naps with windows and minds open.

[BoxTitle]Southern Shores: Night Is Young[/BoxTitle] [FreeDownload]http://soundcloud.com/cascine/04-night-is-young[/FreeDownload]

Just one song so far from forthcoming Atlantic EP, but that one song “pulses with scenes from the best night of your life – beach parties, sea foam, dancing through the night, watching the sun go down and up again – until suddenly it’s not the fahrenheit or the far away that matters, but just being right where you are.” More balearic tunes from the Nova Scotian band can heard here, and they also made a mix of their own for blog No Modest Bear.

[BoxTitle]Diamond Atlas: Final † Heat[/BoxTitle] [FreeDownload]http://diamondatlas.com/post/7020505036/diamond-atlas-presents-june-mix-final-heat[/FreeDownload]

The Diamond Atlas blog tumbles with the best of them; Max is always on point, and his latest rallies all “bikini bangers” of the moment in one place (or two, since this thing spills over into an equally strong second side). It’s essentially a buzz climate temperature reading, and all the right marks have been made, and fused into hot sequence. Featuring the about-to-blow-up Youth Lagoon, that long awaited new sax-crazed track from The Rapture, The Weeknd, John Maus and…well, just click above.

“Sweetest Touch” has anthem of 2011 potential, and it’s gotten there by channeling 1994 like a modern day “Loser.” Following up on the handful of grunge pop demos floating around, the Teen Jamz EP arriving next month will be a big release for Brighton-based 20 year old Sam McGarrigle. If it’s anything like his website, expect some era specific creativity.
