First Look At Chloe Grace Moretz as CARRIE!

The remake wheelhouse just keeps pumping out recycled material as Brian DePalma and Sissy Spacek’s 1976 horror classic, based on the book by Stephen King, is being retrofitted for contemporary audiences. The role of murder-minded Carrie is being approached by red-hot, teen star Chloe Grace Moretz, while Julianne Moore is playing the batsh*t crazy mother that Piper Laurie played so well in the original.

The 1976 version was so potent — partly because director Brian DePalma was at the height of his powers and partly for the powerhouse performances by Spacek and Laurie—that it’s going to be hard for writer/director Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry) to top. With Moretz and Moore, though, she’ll have two high caliber actors to help toe the line just as DePalma did back in ’76.

I’ve read the book, watched the original film and withstood an hour and a half of the atrocious and unnecessary 1999 sequel, The Rage: Carrie 2, and my only gripe with this new interpretation of arguably King’s best work is the fact that Moretz is just too darn pretty. Sissy Spacek made outcast, Carrie, work partly because she played up how plain and vanilla she actually looked. Moretz doesn’t look like the kind of girl that would find herself without friends in a school setting.

Nonetheless, Carrie is scheduled to hit theaters in March of 2013. What do you think? Are you interested in seeing another Carrie film?
