From being The WWE Champ to kicking ass all over the silver screen, The Rock is coming back to your living rooms next summer as TNT and the hulking film and wrestling star are tag-teaming on a new series, The Hero, in which 10 “ordinary people” will live in a house together and compete in a series of challenges that will force the contestants to prove their physical and moral resolve by overcoming dangerous situations in which they will have to save and sometimes sacrifice in order to help their fellow contestants.
Sounds a bit silly, saving the people you are competing against, but here’s the kicker: social media will play a role in the games as viewers at home will be able to vote on who committed the most heroic feats, and, therefore, maintaining their spot in the home.
Here’s an excerpt of The Rock and TNT’s offical press release:
“I couldn’t be more excited to enter into our first official foray in TV production. The Hero speaks to everything I believe in when it comes to challenging ourselves, to becoming better people every day and to making the right choices while growing from the wrong ones. Bridging the digital and physical world on the small screen in a way that’s never been done before will enable fans to use social media and on-screen decision making to determine the fate of the show’s contestants, and our goal is to make each TV moment impactful and exciting.”
What do you think? Are you interested in another reality competition series? And, furthermore, will the winner don a cape and mask and begin fighting crime in our worst neighborhoods? Or, will they just go return to their droll cubicle life? My guess is the latter.
