Robin ‘Boy Wonder’ Killed in New Batman DC Comic Book

DC Comics’ “New 52” initiative has breathed new life into the Batman universe. But, it looks like the comic book giant is going to take fans’ breath away by killing off The Dark Knight’s “Boy Wonder” in Wednesday’s Batman Incorporated issue.

The New York Post unveiled the exclusive news on this comic book event when DC Comics confirmed that Robin will die in the eighth issue of Batman Incorporated.

The writer for the comic, Grant Morrison, spoke about Robin’s growth, his parents’ quarrel and if the character will return:

What we did was turn this little monster into a superhero. He’s a little brat, but he’s a super-brat. He saves the world. He does his job as Robin. He dies an absolute hero. It’s all about the family and the family going to hell. The two adults in the story are both culpable. The kid’s the good guy. You can never say never in a comic book . . . Batman will ultimately always have a partner.

The current Robin is Damian Wayne, the 10-year-old son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul, who was trained to be an deadly assassin. Robin matured in front of comic book fans’ eyes as he transitioned into a selfless hero alongside his partner/father, Batman.

Robin has been killed off before. When Jason Todd took over the mantle of the “Boy Wonder,” fans voted for the death of the character by The Joker’s hands. Todd made his return as the masked vigilante, the second Red Hood. The Red Hood is still a major player in the DC Universe, as he now leads his own team in the Red Hood and The Outlaws comic book series.

Jason Todd, the first Robin to die, is now featured in DC Comics as the Red Hood.

A preview of the Wednesday’s Batman Incorporated can be read below. Be mindful of the spoilers, folks:

So who will Batman fight alongside next? Another boy? Or maybe a girl this time around?
