Rejoice, nerds and those living in the past! Veronica Mars is coming back! The cult-classic TV show that aired from 2004 to 2007 and launched Kristen Bell’s career is being rebooted for a feature film, due to the devotion of its fans. The show Here’s how it went down.


1. Fans Raised $2 Million in Just One Day

The film had been written shortly after the series was cancelled, but had been stalled due to Warner Bros perceived lack of interest. Obviously, they were wrong.


2. Series Creator Rob Thomas Used Kickstarter To Raise Money For The Film

Rob Thomas was able to stir enough interest with this titillating snippet: “My goal is to include as many of your favorite characters as possible. It is, after all, time for Veronica’s 10-year high school reunion. Keep in mind that the more money we raise, the cooler movie we can make.”


3. The Donations Are Still Coming In

The amount of money raised continues to climb, currently at $2,754,440 and counting.


4. The Show Ran For Just Three Seasons

The TV show took place in the fictional California town of Neptune, in which Kristen Bell starred as Veronica Mars, a teenage detective, solving mysteries and kicking ass.


5. It Was A Critical Darling

Though the show never really took off ratings-wise, it was lauded by critics and writers alike.


6. It Aired On The Now Defunct UPN Network

UPN was a TV network where shows that aired on the WB came to die. It saw the decline of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and ‘Roswell.’ In 2006, UPN merged with the WB to form the CW, which now brings us classics like ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and ‘Nikita.”

The project hit $1 million in just 4 hours and 24 minutes, making it the fastest project to hit that milestone. It also the most funded project throughout Kickstarter’s film category.
