Glee star Cory Monteith announced Sunday night that he had voluntarily entered rehab.

His rep told People.com that the actor “has voluntarily admitted himself to a treatment facility for substance addiction,” adding, “He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery.”

The 30-year-old Victoria, British Columbia native, who plays Finn Hudson on the hit Fox television show, is no stranger to substance addiction, having previously spoken out about his struggles with drugs and alcohol in the past.

In a 2011 interview with Parade Magazine the actor admitted his family was afraid he “could die” and so staged an intervention when he was 19. “That’s when I first went to rehab. I did the stint but then went back to doing exactly what I left off doing,” he told the magazine. “I’m lucky on so many counts — I’m lucky to be alive.”

In a statement, producers of the show said: “Cory is a beloved member of the Glee family and we fully support his decision to seek treatment.”

On Monday, Monteith’s co-stars tweeted their support for the actor in his quest to get help.

“Love u @CoryMonteith, so proud of you :)” shared Kevin McHale.

“Supporting @CoryMonteith for his courageous decision. Get well soon my friend! Proud of you!” Harry Shum, Jr. wrote.

Glee creator Ryan Murphy also tweeted his support saying, “I am so proud of Cory Monteith and love and support him 100%.”

Monteith’s on-screen and real-life girlfriend, Lea Michele also spoke out about his decision to enter rehab, saying, “I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this. I am grateful and proud he made this decision.”

Monteith will reportedly miss the season’s final two episodes.
