Star Wars creator George Lucas married his longtime girlfriend and president of Ariel Investments Melody Hobson on Saturday, reports the Los Angeles Times.
The couple wed at Skywalker Ranch in Marin County, California in a ceremony that was officiated by journalist Bill Moyers. Hobson was given away by former New Jersey senator and longtime friend Bill Bradley. This is the bride’s first marriage, but the second for Lucas, who was married to film editor Marcia Lucas from 1969 to 1983.
Among the guests were fellow filmmakers Steven Spielberg and Ron Howard. Van Morrison and Janelle Monae reportedly sang at the reception.
“It was a gathering of people who have known George and Mellody for a very long time,” Lucas spokeswoman Lynne Hale told the Marin Independent Journal. “It was an extraordinary day filled with so much love.”
Lucas, 69, and Hobson, 44, got engaged back in January after dating since 2006. George Lucas, who is one of the most successful filmmakers, created Star Wars and co-created Indiana Jones with Spielberg. Hobson is the president of financial company Ariel Investments and also serves as chairwoman of Dreamworks Animation.
