1. Former REM Guitarist Mike Mills Broke the News

It’s expected that CBS will make an official announcement on the retirement at some point before the broadcasting of tonight’s shot. The news first broke when former REM guitarist tweeted:

2. We Still Have Another Year of Dave

Letterman indicated during the broadcast that he’ll remain in the job until this time next year.

3. His Contract Expires in 2015

In 2013, he signed a new two-year deal with CBS that was widely expected to be his last. At the time of signing the deal, CBS Corp President, Leslie Moonves said, “There is only one Dave, and we are extremely proud that he continues to call CBS home.”

By 2014, Letterman will have been with CBS for 22 years. Famously he joined CBS in 1993 after he was passed over for the job of host of The Tonight Show in favor of Jay Leno. Leno himself retired from late-night in 2014.
