San Diego Comic-Con 2014: Top 10 Comic Book Panels You Need To Attend

Everyone knows that the annual Comic-Con expo gives fans some great panels regarding their favorite TV shows, films, video games, action figures etc. But you gotta make sure you pay attention to the word “Comic” in the title of this annual event. Comic books makes the foundation of this massive expo thrive year after year.

For comic book fans who want to celebrate the heroes, heroines and super villains they love so much, these are the top 10 comic book panels they need to attend.


1. Marvel Comics’ 75th and Daredevil’s 50th – Sunday, July 27 • 1:45pm – 2:45pm

Marvel Comics has been around for 75 years and they’ve provided the world with heroic tales of grandeur and inspiration. One of their most iconic heroes, Daredevil, is now entering his 50th year as a part of the Marvel Comics roster. This panel will hold a double celebration in honor of this comic book juggernaut and one of its heroes who’s popularity has been revived. Fans can look forward to hearing from Mark Waid (Daredevil), Comic-Con special guests Dan Slott (writer, Superior Spider-Man, Amazing Spider-Man) and Joe Quesada (chief creative officer, Marvel Entertainment).


2. DC Comics: Champions of Justice – Friday, July 25 • 11:15am – 12:15pm

The New 52 has been ripping and running for a long time now. DC Comics fans have been treated to epic clashes between superhero teams, the rebooting of hero origin stories and new titles from comic book veterans. Many of the writers and artists behind the New 52’s ever expanding line of releases will come to speak on what’s next for this comic books movement. Here’s who will be there to speak to the crowd: David Finch (Forever Evil, upcoming Wonder Woman), Meredith Finch (upcoming Wonder Woman), Van Jensen (Green Lantern Corps), Geoff Johns (Justice League, Superman), Jeff Lemire (Futures End, Green Arrow, Justice League United), Charles Soule (Red Lanterns, Superman/Wonder Woman, Swamp Thing) and Robert Venditti (The Flash, Green Lantern).


3. DC Entertainment: Batman 75th Anniversary – Saturday, July 26 • 4:00pm – 5:00pm

If you’re still rocking Batman underoos and watching the 90’s animated series every day, then you have a clue about DC’s darkest hero celebrating his 75th Anniversary. Years of epic clashes with his rogues gallery, Batsuit changes and blockbuster film appearances have made Bruce Wayne’s alter-ego instantly familiar and revered. Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Bruce Timm, Ralph Garman, Geoff Johns, Jim Lee and Peter Girardi will be in attendance to speak about Batman’s past, present and immediate future.


4. Marvel: Avengers & X-Men AXIS – Thursday, July 24 • 4:30pm – 5:30pm

Avengers & X-Men: AXIS is the next major crossover storyline to take hold of the Marvel Comics universe. Captain America’s biggest foe, the Red Skull, will do battle with two of Marvel’s biggest superhero teams – The Avengers and the X-Men. You can check out some new art and storyline reveals about this new plot from the following guests – editor-in-chief Axel Alonso, executive editor Mike Marts, senior editor Nick Lowe and Avengers & X-Men: AXIS writer Rick Remender.


5. Skybound’s The Walking Dead – Thursday, July 24 • 4:15pm – 5:15pm

The Walking Dead comic book has become so huge over the past couple of the years and given the world of zombies a new lease on life. A hit TV show, an awesome line of video games and even more dramatic comic book releases have made Robert Kirkman’s series an even bigger hit. Fans should hit up this panel and hear about the future plans regarding the dark and depressing world of the zombie apocalypse. Along with creator Robert Kirkman, artist Charlie Adlard and editor Sean Mackiewicz will attend this exciting panel.

6. Marvel: Spider-Verse – Friday, July 25 • 10:00am – 11:00am

Spidey fans must be super excited about the news surrounding a brand-new storyline that puts every Spider-Man ever seen together for one big event. There’s bound to be some cool reveals regarding how this Spider-Man universe spanning plot will unravel and when fans can expect to read it. Senior editor Nick Lowe, Dan Slott (Amazing Spider-Man) and Mark Waid (Daredevil) will take on all the questions fielded from fans of Marvel NOW!’s big plans for the web-crawler.


7. Marvel: The Avengers – Friday, July 25 • 12:45pm – 1:45pm

Marvel is ready to give fans a better look at what’s being planned for their newest lineup of The Avengers. You’ve probably seen some of Marvel Comics’ huge reveals regarding their pLans for the new Captain America, Thor and Iron Man. Along with the news regarding these new hero initiatives, Marvel is set to change up their current Avengers roster. Hitting up this panel is a must for fans who can’t wait to hear about Marvel Comics’ fall plans.


8. DC Comics-Superman: The Man of Tomorrow – Saturday, July 26 • 11:15am – 12:30pm

The Last Son of Krypton has led a proud and iconic existence ever since his introduction to the world of comic books. The New 52 has breathed a new life into Superman, plus the cinematic plans centering on him are getting more and more exciting by the day. Fans can sit in on this panel and hear from the individuals responsible for keeping “The Man of Steel” alive – Geoff Johns (Superman), Aaron Kuder (Action Comics), John Romita Jr. (Superman) and Charles Soule (Superman/Wonder Woman) and more.


9. Spotlight on Jim Lee – Sunday, July 27 • 11:15am – 12:15pm

Jim Lee’s name rings bells around the world of comic books. His art has been splashed all over the pages of Marvel and DC’s biggest franchises and his legacy has been tied to other forms of the entertainment medium. Lee did the honors of drawing the cover for the Comic-Con International 2014 Souvenir Book, plus he’s getting his own panel to speak at. Do yourself a favor and go listen to Jim Lee drop some gems about his career and his future in comic books.


10. Archie Action Hour: Sonic, the Hedgehog and Mega Man – Sunday, July 27 • 1:00pm – 2:00pm

The Archie Action Hour features two of gaming’s biggest blue badasses – Sonic, the Hedgehog and Mega Man! It’s been surprisingly fun following the comic book exploits of Sega and Capcom’s superstars. This panel will give fans a sneak peek at upcoming covers for both franchises and a grab bag of comic book goodies. Paul Kaminski (Archie Comics executive director of editorial) is joined by Mike Pellerito (Archie Comics president) and artists Jon Gray (Sonic, the Hedgehog) and Evan Stanley (Sonic, the Hedgehog) will be on hand to give the fans all the important info they need to see and hear.
