Neil Young and wife of 36 years, Pegi Young, have thrown in the towel and are getting a divorce. Read on for the facts.


1. Their First Divorce Hearing Is Scheduled for December

According to Rolling Stone, Neil Young filed for divorce from his wife of 36 years on July 29, 2014. Their first hearing is scheduled for December 12, 2014 and Neil’s rep had no comment.


2. Pegi Was Neil’s Muse

Over the years, Pegi was the inspiration for some of her husband’s best love songs, including “Such a Woman,” “Unknown Legend” and “Once an Angel.” Neil met his wife when she was working as a waitress in a diner.


3. Neil and Pegi Performed Many Times Together

Neil Young wasn’t the only musical person in the relationship. According to Rolling Stone:

She began serving as his background singer in the 1990s, sharing the stage with him at the 1994 Academy Awards and numerous tours over the past 20 years. They last performed together at the Bridge School Benefit in October of 2013.

Pegi has even released three of her own albums.


4. Their Son Suffers From Cerebral Palsy

Neil and Pegi’s son’s diagnosis of cerebral palsy inspired them to dedicate themselves to raising money for the cause. Rolling Stone writes:

Inspired by the lack of educational opportunities for their son Ben, who suffers from cerebral palsy, they co-founded the Bridge School in 1986, which educates children with severe physical impairments. They raise funds for it every year with an all-star concert in Mountain View, California.


5. The Couple’s Upcoming Performance Together Has Been Nixed

On September 13, 2014, Neil and Pegi were supposed to play together at Farm Aid. Neil Young will still play, but Pegi has been taken off the lineup.
