1. The Couple’s Rehearsal Dinner Was Star-Studded

George Clooney had friends Matt Damon, Rande Gerber, Emily Blunt, and other stars board a gondola at the prestigious Hotel Cipriani in Venice on Friday, September 26, 2014. The bride joined with her family as Clooney escorted her to a restaurant where she and all the women had a girls-only meal. The NY Daily News reports that Clooney and his guys left to have a guys night at Da Ivo for a “last hoorah.”


2. They Are Having Two Ceremonies: A Civil Ceremony In Addition to a Symbolic Wedding Ceremony

E! News reports that the couple is actually having two ceremonies.

Alamuddin and Clooney will have a symbolic wedding ceremony that night, which will likely be performed by former Rome Mayor Walter Veltroni. Festivities will continue on Sunday, when the newlyweds will have lunch with their guests, a source tells E! News, followed by another party. On Monday, Clooney and Alamuddin will wrap up their wedding weekend fun with a civil ceremony, at which point they will officially and legally be man and wife.

The wedding takes place at the seven-star Aman Canal Grande. Afterwards, the guests will return to Hotel Cipriani for late-night drinks and fireworks.


3. Clooney Included Fans In His Big Day

According to USA Today, the hotel staff had a lot of security and reportedly formed a barrier to protect Clooney because of all the fans and onlookers who gathered around for the big day. Clooney reportedly waved off security.

Outside the hotel, photographers had gathered in boats trying to catch a glimpse of the star. After someone yelled, “Is this really happening, George?” the actor feigned looking at his watch and yelled back: “Yeah, right now.”


4. Alamuddin and Clooney Met in Italy

Clooney and his bride got married in Italy because that’s where they met. On September 7, 2014, Clooney was at a charity event in Florence and gushed:

I met my lovely bride-to-be here in Italy, whom I will be marrying in a couple of weeks, in Venice, of all places. I would just like to say to my bride-to-be, Amal, that I love you very much and I can’t wait to be your husband.

USA Today reports:

It was widely thought the two, engaged since April, would wed at his Lake Como estate. But Venice it was. It’s a favorite destination for Clooney, a regular attendee at the Venice Film Festival. Besides, it’s widely considered one of the most romantic cities in the world.


5. Their Wedding Guest List Was Stocked With A-Listers

The guest list was filled with A-List celebrities, including Bono, Ellen Barkin, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, Bill Murray, Sandra Bullock, Cindy Crawford, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Julia Roberts.

Guest Ellen Barkn, Clooney’s Ocean’s Thirteen co-star reportedly threw Alamuddin’s bridal shower in New York City.
