Neil Patrick Harris posted the above tweet just a little while ago on Twitter, revealing to the world that he and Burtka tied the knot in Italy over the weekend. A rep for Harris confirmed to People:
We happily confirm that Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka were married in Italy in an intimate ceremony surrounded by their close friends and family.
The two have been together for 10 years and they each wore custom-made Tom Ford tuxedos for their wedding. In addition, Sir Elton John performed at the wedding reception and the ceremony was officiated by Pam Fryman, a producer and director for How I Met Your Mother.
2. Burtka & Harris Have Two Twin Children Together
The couple has two fraternal twins together and they each participated in the wedding ceremony. Their names are Harper Grace and Gideon Scott.
3. David Burtka Is a Celebrity Chef
Burtka reportedly quit acting in order to become a professional chef. As for his formal training, he graduated from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Pasadena in summer 2009 and then tarted a Los Angeles catering company, Gourmet M.D. His catering bio lists some of the celebrities he’s cooked for:
He has cooked for many celebrity clients, including Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks and John Hamm, Star Trek’s Zack Quinto, Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson, American Idol’s Kara Dioguardi, and Iron Chef’s Cat Cora. He also has been seen as a guest judge on Bravo’s TOP CHEF MASTERS.
4. Harris & Burtka Announced Their Engagement After Passage of the Marriage Equality Act in New York
In June 2011, New York passed the Marriage Equality Act, which prompted Burtka and Harris to get engaged. Their engagement, like their marriage, was also announced on Twitter, with Harris tweeting:
It PASSED! Marriage equality in NY!! Yes!! Progress!! David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago! We’ve been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date. Thank you everyone who worked so hard on this!! A historic night!!
5. Burtka Has Also Been a Broadway Star
Burtka’s Broadway debut was as Tulsa in the 2003 production of “Gypsy” opposite Bernadette Peters. He played The Boy in the American premiere of “The Play About the Baby,” for which he won the 2001 Clarence Derwent Award for his performance. He also dabbled in television, even appearing on NPH’s show How I Met Your Mother.
