WWE Night of Champions 2014 Preview: Matchups & Predictions

Update: Just so you guys know, Roman Reigns won’t be able to attend and compete at Night of Champions 2014 due to his emergency hernia surgery. He’s slated to be gone for four to six weeks or three months if his recovery takes even longer. His surgery was done by Dr. Christopher Amann out of Nashville, Tennessee. Reigns’ surgical procedure was a success and he is now recuperating.

SummerSlam 2014’s finale left us with one of the more shocking WWE World Heavyweight Championship match finishes ever.

Brock Lesnar dominated the former champion John Cena in a one-sided contest that no one saw coming. Now we have arrived at WWE Night of Champions 2014 with one of the biggest championship rematches ever between Lesnar and Cena.

We’re here to break down the event’s match card and predict who will prevail over their adversaries!

The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso) (c) vs. Goldust and Stardust (WWE Tag Team Championship)

Predictions & Winners: The Usos have been on a very impressive WWE Tag Team Championship run this past few months. We thought their reign was going to come to a close during their intense feud with The Wyatt Family, but both Usos managed to fend them off. Now they’ve been embroiled in another hot rivalry with the odd duo of Goldust and Stardust. Goldust and Stardust have taken a turn to the dark side and have managed to injure one of the Uso brothers along the way. However, we think the Usos are still on a roll and we’ll shock us again. They’re going to retain the belts here. We think the Dust Brothers won’t take their loss and end this feud so fast, though…

Sheamus (c) vs. Cesaro (WWE United States Championship)

Predictions & Winner: Sheamus hasn’t been the most exciting performer/champion on the roster these past few years. He goes out and has great matches, but his character has been quite stale for far too long. Cesaro has been experiencing the same kind of career sameness, which is surprising considering his amazing performance at WrestleMania 30. This match will definitely be hard hitting and possibly come off as one of the better bouts of the evening. Sheamus’ title run has been mostly forgettable so far, so we think the U.S. strap will be going to Cesaro. Cesaro needs another career resurgence. Maybe another mid-card title run could breath some new life into “The King of Swing.”

Paige (c) vs. AJ Lee vs. Nikki Bella (WWE Divas Championship)

Predictions & Winner: We’re going to have to be truthful and oh so harsh when we say this – The Bella Twins and their horribly acted feud are the drizzling shits. We could care less about their constant bickering and horrible Monday Night RAW segments. We’re sick of seeing them on out TV screen, but we’ll have no choice but to see one of them wrestle on Sunday night. AJ Lee and Paige’s title feud will now include the Bella twins, which should make Nikki’s inclusion more tolerable. Paige’s constant mocking of AJ and her surprising amount of grit and toughness had kept that Divas title around her waist. She’s going to walk into Night of Champions 2014 as the champ and leave as the champ. You should totally expect Brie Bella to interfere in this match somehow.

Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. The Miz (WWE Intercontinental Championship)

Predictions & Winner: The Miz hasn’t been as terrible as he once was, in our eyes. His Hollywood Superstar persona and his tag along stunt double in Damien Sandow has been great. We’ll always support anything that Ziggler’s involved in, which is why we’ve been supremely entertained by his R-Truth body double exchange against Miz and Sandow. This secondary championship match should also be just as good as the U.S. title bout. Ziggler and Miz will put on a great mach, no doubt. But we’re gonna reveal quite the shocker here (not really…): Ziggler is going to keep that Intercontinental Championship around his swiveling waist.

Mark Henry vs. Rusev

Predictions & Winner: Rusev put down “The All-American American” on two separate occasions and he’s been damn near unstoppable ever since his debut. His huge frame must be tested in a real way and we know that Mark Henry will be the man to give him that challenge. Now we know this one won’t be pretty. Rusev and Henry will bounce off of each other like two wrecking balls and exchange the type of stiff strikes that would make anyone cringe. So who do we think we’ll win. No one! This one’s gonna end in a DQ, trust us on that one. This match will get a little too intense and result in the ref having to throw this match out. We totally see both men heading into he next PPV with an even bigger score to settle.

Chris Jericho vs. Randy Orton

Predictions & Winner: So we hear Y2J is about to head out on tour with Fozzy. Simply put, that should tell you everything you need to know about who’g going to win this contest. Randy Orton hasn’t been terribly exciting lately, but he’s managed to put on some good matches here and there. Y2J pulled off some fun bouts against Bray Wyatt and we think he’ll be able to do the same with Orton. Orton wins clean here and continues to run rampant with The Authority. As for Jericho, we think he’s going to take his annual break and come back for revenge later this year.

Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins

Predictions & Winner: Here’s a shocker of an announcement – Roman Reigns had to undertake a sudden emergency surgery for an incarcerated hernia. Now that we know he’s off the card, we expect Rollins to come down to the ring and gloat about his cheap win. But lo and behold, a returning member of the now deceased Shield faction will make his return – Dean Ambrose! We see him rushing out to the ring and replacing an injured Reigns without a problem. The bell will ring, Dean and Rollins will tear into each other with reckless abandon and we’ll love every second of it. We envision this match breaking down as both men get disqualified, but Dean will get the last laugh on his former ally. Rollins is going to get the worst beating of his life…

Brock Lesnar (c) vs. John Cena (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)

Predictions & Winner: Lesnar completely dominated Cena at SummerSlam 2014. Cena knows this, which is why he’s shown a more aggressive side weeks after his defeat. When these two behemoths return for their massive rematch, we think it will go much longer. Lesnar will pile up on the suplexes once again, but we think Cena will shock the crowd and pull off some heel tactics. In order to put down Brock, we think he’s going to go above and beyond the call of duty and be extra violent against Lesnar. So who do we think’s gonna prevail? We’re gonna have to go with Lesnar on this one. His championship reign has just begun and it would be dumb to to end it so soon. Cena will take another L here. The question after this match will then be this: Who’s next for Lesnar?
