Tonight, Teresa and Joe Giudice sit down with Bravo’s Andy Cohen for a first-time interview since the couple was sentenced in their fraud case. Teresa has been sentenced to 15 months, while husband Joe has been sentenced to 41 months. Teresa’s sentence will be lessened to 12 months on good behavior. In addition to serving time, the couple will have to pay some hefty restitution money, as Joe Giudice has to pay a restitution of well over $600,000 including unpaid taxes.
As for the lessons Teresa says she’s learned through this, she tells Andy Cohen:
I do need to understand things before I sign them. I’m a trustworthy person. Sometimes I take what other people say and I believe them and I trust them. I can’t do that anymore. I’ve got to make sure I fully understand something or read it or find a lawyer, like a contract lawyer, that can help me.
Teresa will begin her sentence on January 5, 2015 while Joe will stay with their four daughters. Joe’s sentence will follow Teresa’s so that their daughters will be with at least one parent at all times. As for Teresa’s time on reality television, many speculate that a spin-off show of Teresa and her daughters once Joe goes to prison is in our future. More book deals are also said to be on the horizon.
As for Joe Giudice’s possible deportation, any proceedings for this would take place after he serves his sentence. So, deportation to Italy would be a long way off for Joe should this be an issue.
Aside from Teresa’s appearance with Andy Cohen, all her commitments are being put on hold while she goes through this difficult time. Teresa posted the below tweet:
Teresa has opened up to Andy Cohen about the help her daughter Gia has gotten from her school, saying:
Today, I got a phone call from the guidance counselor, and she told me she met with Gia. Everyone’s been great, the school’s family and friends, and the school said they spoke to her. They’re going to take her out of gym period once a week and just talk to her. And see how she’s doing. She likes that idea. The one person she’s worried about, she said, was me.
Teresa then talked about Gia’s reaction to the news of her parents going to prison. Gia reportedly told her mother:
Mommy, don’t worry about it. I’ll be there. I’ll help daddy with the girls. That will make me a better mom. That’ll prepare me for when I’m a mom.
Since the sentencing, Teresa and Joe Giudice’s eldest daughter Gia has posted on Twitter that family is forever and that she appreciates the little things, rather than “big things” in life.
