‘Peter Pan Live!’ Live Blog, Recap & Review

The time has come to see Christopher Walken as the iconic Captain Hook and Allison Williams as the legendary character Peter Pan in NBC’s musical production Peter Pan Live! Enjoy the minute-by-minute play by plays of the musical right here for a full recap and review of the 3-hour long show.

The show opens up to a simple set with Minnie Driver’s voice as the narrator. The cast is introduced is a beautiful set, with a live dog as “Nana”. 8:07 p.m.

Apparently, the show will be available on DVD as a holiday gift in just two weeks as you can see in the below tweet.

Tinkerbell appears, still as a light, but slightly more graphic as her silhouette is that of a fairy. She is accompanied by bells and music as she flies into the children’s room. Then, Allison Williams flies in through the window with a grand entrance as Peter Pan and you can’t even see her strings, which is refreshing. With the help of Tink, Pan locates his shadow, which he had lost. Wendy awakens. 8:11 p.m.

Williams’ come-and-go English accent is a little distracting, but she makes a convincing Pan thus far. 8:14 p.m.

Pan dances with two of his shadows on either side of him and the graphics are quite good, especially for live television. However, the show seems to be dragging a bit. 8:21 p.m.

It feels like we’re just waiting for Christopher Walken …

Pan begins to tell Wendy about Neverland, trying to persuade her to come and tell stories to the boys like Cinderella. Wendy agrees to come on the condition that her brothers Michael and Peter can come. 8:30 p.m.

There are the strings! Williams sings “I’m Flying”. Production did a great job of attaching everyone’s safety chords without viewers noticing. Though you could definitely see the chords, it was still entertaining, though the children were a lot more animated than Williams in their flying. Even so, the flying became a bit drawn-out. 8:33 p.m.

The original Pan, Mary Martin is trending on Twitter. Sorry, Williams, but that’s a lot to live up to.

Finally, it’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for! Hook! Christopher Walken is delightfully creepy looking. 8:40 p.m.

Mr. Darling doubles as Smee? Uh oh. Smee seems to have forgotten his words as Captain Hook comes to the rescue. 8:41 p.m.

Christopher Walken tap dancing as Captain Hook makes my life complete. Even though Walken can’t disguise his famous way of deadpan speaking, I wouldn’t have it any other way. 8:46 p.m.

Now we meet Tiger Lily, who is unaware of Captain Hook’s threat against Pan, as Minnie Driver beautifully narrates. 8:48 p.m.

Uh oh. Hook hears the ticking of the clock … 8:52 p.m.

Walken seems to have a little trouble making his way down the terrain on part of the set. Hey, he’s 69 years old, can we blame him? Walken can do no wrong. 8:54 p.m.

Is Captain Hook really doing a tango dance with Smee right now? Why yes he is. 8:55 p.m.

Hook is scared away by a neon blue crocodile. 8:56 p.m.

Pan introduces Wendy, John, and Michael to the Lost Boys. Unfortunately, they shot Wendy. Don’t worry … She’ll be okay. A kiss saved her of course. 9:02 p.m.

This is the first time I’ve ever seen a bunch of young boys eager to hear the stories of Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty … and Hamlet? 9:08 p.m.

Hook finds out that Peter Pan has found a mother (Wendy) and his reaction is classic Walken. From now on he should be called Captain Walken. 9:11 p.m.

In the middle of a commercial, it just cut to 5 seconds of Captain Hook singing a high note in a very awkward tone. Explain yourself, NBC. 9:15 p.m.

I won’t grow up! 9:20 p.m.

The set for Peter Pan and Wendy rowing along on a boat is extremely beautiful and well-crafted. Their song “Only Pretend” is a new one. 9:32 p.m.

And cue the mermaid tails. 9:35 p.m.

Wendy wants to give Peter Pan a real kiss, but the voices of pirates interrupts them. Poor Tiger Lily is tied to a rock, waiting to die as the pirates tease her. 9:37 p.m.

Isn’t it amazing just how much Allison Williams sounds like Christopher Walken when Pan pretends to be Captain Hook? I kid. 9:41 p.m.

Finally we see Hook and Williams together. And the neon crocodile saves the day as Hook flees. 9:41 p.m.

Uh oh. Peter Pan is wounded. 9:43 p.m.

Every time Wendy gets creepy, we thank NBC for interrupting her. 9:43 p.m.

Christopher Walken’s random 5-second singing clips during commercial breaks are actually intentional. 9:45 p.m.

Tiger Lily is now Team Peter. 9:49 p.m.

Wendy is a stage 5 clinger who has never read the book “He’s Just Not That Into You.” 9:55 p.m.

Wendy is ready to return home and the Lost Boys all want to go with her? But she has all these rules and is usually a bit of a downer. 10:04 p.m.

Peter Pan’s teeth are insanely white for someone who probably doesn’t brush their teeth. 10:07 p.m.

Uh oh, all the pirates have captured the Lost Boys. 10:09 p.m.

Tinkerbell drank poison to save Peter. We must tweet to save Tinkerbell! That’s an upgrade from clapping, don’t you think? 10:17 p.m.

So now Wendy is Captain Hook’s mother. Not creepy at all. 10:20 p.m.

Anytime Christopher Walken sings, life is disturbingly beautiful. 10:24 p.m.

The best part of this broadcast is a Christmas commercial featuring singing Minions. 10:25 p.m.

Finally, they’ve tied up Wendy. She was getting a bit annoying. 10:31 p.m.

Peter Pan shows up aboard the pirate ship with a ticking clock to spook Hook. 10:31 p.m.

What’s so bad about walking the plank if your hands and feet aren’t tied? Can’t the Lost Boys just swim? 10:32 p.m.

Captain Hook thinks Wendy is unlucky, so she has to walk the plank. But, Peter Pan stops it. Damn you, Peter! 10:34 p.m.

Wendy makes Smee walk the plank for kidnapping Michael’s teddy bear. 10:36 p.m.

Peter Pan and Captain Hook’s sword fight might as well be in slow motion. 10:37 p.m.

Captain Hook walks the plank after throwing Michael’s teddy bear overboard … and the neon crocodile loves it. 10:39 p.m.

With Christopher Walken gone now, life seems empty. Should we continue to watch the next 15 minutes of the show? 10:46 p.m.

So, Smee is back … as Mr. Darling and has consented to adopt a dozen Lost Boys. 10:48 p.m.

And there’s Minnie Driver as an adult Wendy, grown up and still waiting for Peter Pan. 10:50 p.m.

Pan returns after a day and everyone grew up already. Now I’m going to cry. 10:51 p.m.

So, Wendy’s just going to let her daughter Jane fly away with Peter. 10:53 p.m.

Leave it to Minnie Driver to finally draw some tears from viewers. 10:55 p.m.

The End. 10:55 p.m.

Well, it was way better than Sound Of Music last year.
