Simply, one of the most inspiring stories you will ever hear about. Lizzie Velasquez is the 25-year-old woman who suffers from an incurable disease where she cannot gain weight. Throughout her life she became accustomed to face-to-face bullying due to her different appearance. Then, one day she found a video on YouTube that labeled her “The World’s Ugliest Woman.”
She scrolled through the comments on that page, and they ranged from unkind to bullying to flat out hate speech. This new movie documents her inspiring story since she found that video, from her Ted talks to Capitol Hill, where she lobbies for anti-bullying legislation.
This fantastic looking documentary, directed by Sara Bordo, who used Kickstarter to get funding for the project, will debut at SXSW on March 14 at 11 a.m. at the Paramount Theater.
You can check out the movie’s Facebook page and official site here.
