Disney and Pixar announced Frozen 2 at Disney’s annual shareholders meeting in San Francisco on Thursday. We already knew that the animated short, Frozen Fever, would be played before the upcoming live-action Cinderella movie, which releases on Friday, and that Frozen would be hitting Broadway as well. Now, we’ve got even more of the enjoyable animated characters with the Frozen sequel.

1. The First ‘Frozen’ Grossed a Record-Breaking $1.3 Billion
It’s no surprise that Disney and Pixar are planning a Frozen sequel, given that the original blockbuster hit scored $1.3 billion at the box office, with $400 million of that being in the United States. It was the biggest Disney movie since The Lion King, and parents everywhere are sick of hearing “Let It Go” every time they walk into their living rooms.
2. Creators Jennifer Lee & Chris Buck Denied Its Existence as Recently as March 6
Strangely enough, creators Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck took to Buzzfeed to deny that a Frozen sequel was coming, noting that they wanted to be cautious with the movie as to not tarnish its image. Buck even told The Huffington Post that the duo would be taking a break before they begin working on Frozen 2, saying, “It was really nice to do a short and just get back with these characters who we love without the pressure of having to do a huge sequel. We’re going to take a little bit of a break from the ‘Frozen’ stuff before diving into anything else.”
3. ‘Frozen Fever’ Led to ‘Frozen 2’
According to reports, chief creative officer at Pixar John Lassater said that the cast and crew “had so much fun making the short Frozen Fever that it they were excited to make a sequel.” Frozen Fever is the animated short that will make its debut Friday before the live-action Cinderella movie.

While we don’t have an official announcement as to what cast members are returning, star Kristen Bell took to Twitter shortly after the announcement and posted, “Dreams really do come 2!!! #FROZEN2 #itsofficial.” This likely means that she will be a major part of Frozen 2, which wouldn’t be a surprise since Anna is an important part of the first movie. Still, there are plenty of Disney movies that don’t see stars from the first movie return for the sequel.
5. There Is No ‘Frozen 2’ Release Date or Plot Yet
Details regarding Frozen 2 are still scarce; we don’t have a Frozen 2 release date nor any plot details. We know it’s coming, we just don’t know when, or what it’s going to be about. As details surface, we’ll keep you posted. But for now, take comfort in knowing that Frozen 2 is real.
