‘The Walking Dead’ Season 5 Finale: Recap & Spoilers

Check out all the highlights of the best moments that transpired during the final episode airing of The Walking Dead’s Season 5 run.


1. Morgan Ran Into Two Men With the Letter W Written on Their Foreheads

A lone car was seen stuck in the woods. Morgan woke up from a deep sleep from inside the vehicle. Morgan exited the car to begin drinking to himself. Out of nowhere, a strange man with a handgun walked up to him. The man told Morgan that what he was cooking looked good. The man sported a W on his forehead, which was explained as an ode to the 1st settlers. Both men spoke calmly or a bit, but the tension was very high. The man spoke about how his group of like-minded tribal survivors survive and meet other folks. The man demanded that he get everything that Morgan currently held. Morgan told the man that he would not allow the man to take him away.

The man held his gun in front of Morgan still. All of a sudden, another man hopped out of the woods to attack Morgan. Morgan took both men down with a wooden stick. After laying his attackers out, Morgan picked up the man’s pistol. A walker came out of the woods and Morgan killed it with his pole. Morgan laid both mysterious men inside his car and blew the horn to signal any walkers to come. Morgan took off afterwards.


2. A Meeting Was Planned for Rick That Very Evening

Daryl rode on his new bike while Aaron tailed him. They both hopped out of their cars to go into the woods. Rick was seen waking up inside a darkened room. His injuries were treated, but the pain from his last encounter was pretty evident. Michonne asked what was so funny when she spotted Rick smiling as he woke up. Michonne told what happened while Rick was knocked out. She asked Rick what he was doing, but Rick didn’t answer her. Pete was put into another house for his own safety. Rick spoke with Michonne about the secrets he didn’t tell her about. Glenn, Carol and Abraham walked in to question Rick soon after. Glenn announced that a meeting was going to be held that would decide Rick’s fate. Carol told Rick what he should do at the meeting and Michonne didn’t look pleased with what was occurring in front of him. Rick told him about his game plan should things break down at the meeting this evening.

Father Gabriel could be seen outside while Maggie started at him with a furious look on her face. Deanna then spoke with Maggie about the meeting that would take place later tonight. Maggie pleaded for Rick to stay, while Deanna and her husband made it clear that they would have to make a tough decision at the meeting. Deanna’s husband spoke with Maggie as she started to leave. Sasha was still outside Alexandria’s walls as she buried her zombie prey. She laid her gun down and tried to lay a final walker down into her ready made coffin. Sasha ended up laying on top of all the dead zombies in a strange moment of peace and solitude.

Daryl and Aaron spoke as they kept trekking through the woods. Aaron told Daryl about a past find and discovery of more survivors as they continued walking. Carol returned to speak with Rick about what occurred the day before. Carol told Rick that she didn’t let Alexandria know about the other weapons they stashed away.


3. Daryl and Aaron Stepped Right Into a Messy Undead Situation

Aaron and Daryl watched a man in a red parka walk through the woods. They noticed how he was able to keep bugs off of him. Rick left his bed placement and walked past three men. Rick locked eyes with Deanna as he kept walking. Nicholas stared at Glenn as he sat to himself. Maggie sat down next to Glenn and spoke about tonight’s meeting. Glenn spotted a man climbing over the gate. Father Gabriel was then seen walking outside of Alexandria’s front gate. Rick arrived at his home and hugged his worried son. Carl told his father that Alexandria wouldn’t survive without him and the rest of the group. Carl pleaded with his father to tell them what they needed to hear.

Daryl and Aaron came up to a gate with walkers behind it. They had a hard time finding the man they hunted from before. Aaron told Daryl it was time to head back, but Daryl decided to keep marching on. Daryl and Aaron killed the walkers and made their way past the gate and into the buildings behind it. Both men walked between a pair of trucks. Aaron discovered a truck that featured an Alaskan license plate on it. Daryl looked at another truck, then madness ensued when all the trucks opened up with several zombies inside each one. Both men fought off the undead horde and locked themselves into a car. More zombies piled up outside their locked vehicle.

4. Nicholas Tried to Shoot and Kill Glenn

Daryl and Aaron stayed inside the car and planned how they would escape this harrowing ordeal. Aaron picked up a note that gave them so hopes of ever getting out. Pete sat inside his darkened home when he heard a knock at the door. Carol came in to tell him that he offer some medical aid to one of Alexandria’s members. Carol threatened Pete when he began yelling at her to leave. Carol told him he was a small, weak man. Pete slammed the dish of food given to him by Carol and also started slamming things inside the house he was locked in.

Glenn went outside the walls to go after Nicholas. Glenn got shot by Nicholas, but he managed to crawl away before he was killed for good. Rick arrived to speak with Jessie in front of the broken window at her home. Rick told him he wasn’t sorry for what he did and Jessie understood his actions.


5. Morgan Saved Daryl and Aaron

Daryl and Aaron spoke while their zombie captors kept them trapped in the car. Both men confided in each other about a previous event. Daryl wanted to leave the car 1st to find their way out, but Aaron told him he’d leave with him. When both men decided to finally make their move, Morgan came to the rescue! All three men escaped from the car and killed off the zombies in their way. It turns out that Daryl and Aaron fell right into a trap. Morgan helped them escape and told them about where he was headed. Daryl read his note to discover which survivor he was connected to.

Father Gabriel continued walking out into the woods. He spotted a zombie and noted that he was ready to be eaten by the walker.


6. Rick Noticed That Someone or Something Just Broke Into Alexandria

Father Gabriel looked to accept his fate, but he fought off the zombie at the last second. He squeezed off the zombie’s head and proceeded to smash it in with a rock. Gabriel walked up to the man that was being ate by the zombie he just killed. Gabriel decided to put it out of its misery. Gabriel began sobbing right in the middle of the road. Abraham walked into a room that contained Rosita, Tara and Eugene. Abraham looked to leave, but Rosita made him stay. Soon, Abraham and Eugene found themselves speaking. Eugene thanked Abraham for everything he did for him and also apologized for lying about D.C. Abraham also apologized to Eugene for almost killing him.

Gabriel came back to Alexandria just in time to get ready for the meeting. The man that let him back in wanted Gabriel to chat wit him about someone named Aiden. Gabriel decided he would help the man and then he closed the front gate behind him. Nicholas was still hunting for Glenn when came across a walker. Nicholas shot the walker in front of him, which clued Glenn into his location. Both men started fighting with Nicholas getting the upper hand. A pair of zombie made Nicholas run away. The undead pair piled on top of Glenn while he tried to fight them off.

Michonne arrived to deliver Rick to the meeting. He confided in her about the guns and plan that he put together with Carol and Daryl. Rick was afraid to tell Michonne if he ever told her about his plan. Michonne told him that they would need a way to make things better. She also warned him not to start any further trouble tonight. Michonne left Rick as he prepared for what would occur at the meeting. Rick took his gun with him just in case. Bob’s voice could be heard while Rick stared out the window. He then spotted the front gate, which was open ajar. Droplets of blood were seen on the floor and on the gate lock, which worried Rick. He quickly locked the gate.

7. Several Fights and Zombie Invasions Took Place While The Meeting Unfolded Undisturbed

Rick ran through the neighborhood looking for whoever broke past the front gate. Gabriel walked into the local Church and spotted Sasha, who pleaded for his aid. Gabriel declined her request. The meeting soon began. Maggie looked to push the meeting further, but Deanna chose to start it anyways. Rick, Glenn and a few other were still missing from the meeting. Nicholas could be seen walking through the woods, still injured. Rick took out his knife as he kept looking for whoever ran into Alexandria. Gabriel verbally lashed out at Sasha about what she had done. He blamed Bob’s death on her, which prompted her to grab him and scream at him. Rick ran into a group of zombies and began tussling with them all.

Back at the meeting, Michonne spoke on behalf of Rick. She noted that everyone there would soon become like Rick if they were lucky enough. Rick kept fighting the undead while Sasha kept fighting Gabriel. Glenn finally found Nicholas and laid him out. Carol gave her reasoning for why Rick should stay as the meeting began to unfold. Abraham also spoke up in defense of Rick. Rick was trapped on the floor while a zombie looked to finish him. He kept choking the zombie and survived the attack. Glenn kept beating down Nicholas while Rick finally vanquished the walker on top of him. The two men who tried to rob and kill Morgan from before were seen next to a gate. They had the man in the red parka next to them, who they killed by slitting his throat.


8. Pete Killed Deanna’s Husband at the Meeting

Maggie spoke up at the meeting about the good Rick has down for her and how much her father respected him. Deanna admitted that Father Gabriel told her about all the things she saw play out in front of her very eyes. Maggie and Deanna noted that that both Rick and Gabriel weren’t there. Glenn put a gun to Nicholas’ head and told him that Noah’s death was his fault. Gabriel laid on the floor scared while Sasha aimed a gun at him. The men with the W on their foreheads played loud music out of one of the trucks behind the gate as the walkers nearby milled around. Glenn almost took Nicholas out by shooting him in the head, but he stooped himself at the last minute. Maggie arrived to help Sasha from shooting Gabriel. Gabriel laid on the floor while Maggie came down to hold his hand and bring him back up to his feet.

At the meeting, Rick told everyone that the gate was left unlocked. Rick told them all about the many dangers there was while scenes played out of everyone else tended to their current predicaments. Rick let them all know they they’d be able to survive with his help. He admitted that he thought about killing them to save their lives, but he decided he wasn’t going to do that. He wanted them all to change and get prepared for what was coming in the near future. Pete arrived at the meeting and began yelling at Rick. Deanna’s husband tried to stop Pete, but Pete ended up cutting his throat and killing him. Deanna then decided it was time for Pete to die. Rick took care of her request. Morgan arrived just in time to see what he had done.

Michonne recovered her sword from to get ready for whatever was coming. The final scene showed a car behind the gates near the trucks. In white lettering, the words “WOLVES NOT FAR” were seen across the car doors.
