Radar Online reports that Bruce Jenner has undergone an 8-hour sex change surgery and is now legally considered a woman. The former patriarch of Keeping Up With the Kardashians revealed his true sexual identity in an April 24, 2015, 20/20 interview with Diane Sawyer, admitting he’s suffered from gender dysphoria since his youth. Radar reports he has now undergone surgery to cure his gender dysphoria and has become a legal female.

However, NY Daily News refutes this claim as a rumor and writes that Jenner has not yet transitioned.

Here’s what you need to know about the now possibly female Jenner:

1. Radar Says It Was an 8-Hour Surgery

Although the story just broke, Radar reports Jenner had the surgery three weeks ago. The site’s source says it was an 8-hour procedure that turned his male genitalia into female genitalia.

2. Sex Change Surgeries Often Result in Complications

A Radar Online source told the gossip site:

The surgery was more than eight hours long… In the immediate aftermath, Bruce thought he had a urinary tract infection, but it was simply the pain from the procedure.

However, if the Jenner actually did NOT have the surgery, this would prove false.

Gender reassignment surgeries are known to have risks involved. According to The Japan Times, over 1 in 10 people undergoing a gender reassignment surgery runs into some type of complication. The newspaper conducted a study about sexual reassignment surgery complications in Japan and abroad and reports:

About 70 percent of 105 Japanese people who had gender reassignment surgeries abroad and in Japan between 1995 and 2012 said they were satisfied with the results, but 15 percent said they had serious complications or they needed another operation after the procedures, a survey showed.

Urination problems and intestinal blockage are the most common issues associated with gender reassignment.

3. A Post-Op Jenner Would Legally Be a Woman

If Jenner, a resident of California, had the surgery, she is now legally a woman.

California has some of the most progressive transgender rights in the nation. According to Equality California:

Most sections of California law prohibit discrimination based on a long list of protected classes, including gender, gender identity and sexual orientation. Transgender Californians are protected from discrimination when securing employment and housing, accessing government services and participating in state-funded activities. Transgender people are also protected under the state’s hate crime law.

Bruce and Kris filed for divorce last year after living apart for more than a year. According to TMZ:

Kris filed pro per — meaning NO LAWYER. Our sources say this was all orchestrated. Bruce Jenner’s response was filed at the L.A. County Courthouse shortly after Kris filed, and it was a mirror image of Kris’ petition.

They give the standard “irreconcilable differences” as grounds for the divorce.

The divorce was finalized in December 2014.

Bruce and Kris have two daughters together, Kylie and Kendall Jenner.

5. Jenner Is Being Sued for Wrongful Death

Jenner is the news for more than just her gender reassignment. On February 7, 2015, Jenner was involved in a fatal car crash that left one person dead, with five children and two adults hospitalized for injuries. The person killed was later identified as 69-year-old Kim Howe.

Jenner has now been hit with a wrongful death lawsuit by the stepchildren of Kim Howe.
