Mel Gibson’s new girlfriend dances on horses for a living. She’s been named in multiple reports as Rosalind Ross, or Rosey to her friends. Ross is a champion equestrian vaulter, a sport that requires participants to dance and perform gymnastic routines on horseback. He’s 59, she’s 24. The couple were seen out together in Los Angeles just after the 2016 Golden Globe awards, reported TMZ.
Here’s what you need to know:
1. Mel Whisked Her Away to His 500 Acre Compound in Costa Rica Recently
The two first met when she applied for a job at Gibson’s production company, Icon. Radar Online reports that following that meeting, the two jetted down to Costa Rica to spend time on his compound. From there, the couple went to Panama. Radar, quoting a source, says “It’s clear the two of them are really happy together…Mel hasn’t had the best luck with the ladies. He’s in no rush to turn his relatively new romance into a high-profile affair.”
A close friend of Ross’s, Devon Maitozo, told the Daily Mail that Ross is having a hard time dealing with the attention she’s getting. Maitozo said, “There’s been a lot of very not very nice media that’s been written about her. Sifting through it has not been very pleasant at all. Sensationalizing her because of her relationships is not what she’s looking for.”
2. She’s the Most Decorated American Vaulter of All Time
Ross has been riding since the age of 9. She’s something of a superstar in the American equestrian vaulting world. On their Instagram page, she’s referred to as a hall-of-famer. In 2010, she won gold at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky doing a loose interpretation of Romeo & Juliet. She’s the most decorated American vaulter of all time. Speaking to ESPN after her win, Ross said “We hoped to embody the essence of the play with our movement and some of characters.” She also told the Lexington Herald that despite her gold medal win, she didn’t expect to be on a Wheaties box or get a multi-million dollar endorsement deal.
3. She’s Trying to Make it as a Screenwriter
In one online profile, it’s said that Ross, who goes by Rosey to her friends, had left sports to try to make it as a writer. Radar Online says that her meeting with Mel came when she interviewed to a writing gig at his production company. In 2014, she was voted as one of Hollywood’s Top 100 ‘Young and Hungry’ people. She’s enrolled in a writing program at Emerson College in Boston and write for a TV show called Matador.
4. She Says ‘Ambition Is Channeling Desire Into a Relentless Pursuit’
According to Ross, “Ambition is channeling desire into a relentless pursuit.” In addition to her writing, she works as a mentor for young adults. Her profile at In True Fashion reads “Diligence, she believes, is an invaluable trait in its universal applicability.”
5. Gibson Hasn’t Been in a Public Relationship Since His Infamous Split From Oksana Grigorieva
Since his April 210 split from Russian pianist Oksana Grigorieva, Gibson hasn’t dated publicly. He broke up with Oksana, less than a year after their daughter, Lucia was born. Later, Oksana accused Gibson of assaulting her and she filed for a restraining order against him. Those allegations were dropped in May 2011 with the couple settling their custody battle with him paying her $750,000 for joint legal custody. Oksana later sued her lawyers claiming they gave her bad advice by getting her to sign an unfair agreement. One of the clauses in their settlement was the voiding of the agreement if she ever takes legal action against Gibson again.
