One of the former stars of the 1980s sitcom Who’s the Boss? has admitted that he’s been living with HIV. Former child star Danny Pintauro, who played Jonathan on the show, made the confession while being interviewed by Oprah on her Where Are They Now? show which aired on September 27. In 1997, Pintauro came out as gay, then, in April 2014 he married his husband Wil Tabares.

1. Pintauro Told Tabares on Their First Date That He Was HIV Positive
In his interview with Oprah, Pintauro talked about how he learned he was HIV positive in March 2003 while he was living in New York City and addicted to meth. That drug infamously damages user’s immune systems. He adds that during his first date with his husband, Tabares, Pintauro talked about his condition saying “It was our first date and we hadn’t even kissed and it was the first thing I told him. The first thing he said was ‘I’m not scared of it at all.'”
2. The Couple Moved From Nevada to California So That They Could Get Married
The couple got engaged in April 2013 with Tabares proposing to Pintauro. The former actor told US Weekly at the time “He made a video, and in the video held up the box [with the ring]. I looked up and he had it in his hand!” Tabares then quickly took to his Facebook page where he told his friends “He said yes!” Pintauro went on in the US Weekly report to talk about how the couple were planning a move from Las Vegas to California so that they could be wed. Then, in April 2014, US Weekly confirmed that the couple had gotten married in Dana Point, California.
3. On Pintauro’s Oprah Interview, Tabares Says ‘I Couldn’t Be More Proud of the Man I Call My Husband’
Tabares has been promoting his husband’s interview with Oprah via Facebook. On September 23, he wrote “A serious subject that is going to become one of the main points of this interview! A definite MUST WATCH!!! Please share this so we can get the word out… that my husband is going to be on OPRAH!!!” His final promotion read “I couldn’t be more proud of the man I call my Husband. He has gone through so much and I can only imagine what a journey it has been.”
4. He Released an Album of Mariachi Music in 2002
According to CD Baby, in 2002 Tabares released an album of mariachi music titled “La Luz de la Luna.” His Facebook page makes it clear that Tabares is active in the entertainment business in Las Vegas, organizing and hosting parties. Shortly before Pintauro’s Oprah interview, Tabares started a new Facebook page to promote his real estate business.
5. Pintauro Now Manages a PF Chang’s in Las Vegas
Since leaving acting, Pintauro has been operating a PF Chang’s restaurant in Las Vegas, according to his Facebook page. The actor is a native of Milltown, New Jersey, and attended Stanford University between 1994 and 1998.
