Although superhero shows have been doing really well recently, CBS wasn't ready to make a full commitment to Supergirl right at first. But after great initial ratings, CBS announced that it was picking up Supergirl for a full 20-episode first season, adding seven more episodes to its lineup. Typically, a show gets 22 episodes for a full season, but it's likely that the cost of special effects and other production expenses are accounting for 20 episodes instead, The Verge reported.
