Ok, we have hope. Some hope. A bit of hope.
And another week to wait and find out if our hope is warranted.
That’s right, Arrow doesn’t return to TV screens until next Wednesday, with a brand-new episode titled “Canary Cry.” Now, if that title doesn’t seem a bit obvious, let’s catch you all up to speed. Warning there are spoilers ahead.
Laurel, better known as the Black Canary (Katie Cassidy) was killed in the most recent episode of Arrow. And who killed her? Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough). Of course. Gosh, he is the worst isn’t he? But, don’t worry fans, there’s still some hope that Laurel may not be completely done for. Seriously. And she’ll at least appear in the upcoming episode.
Before we dive straight into the spoilers for that soon-to-be-viewed episode, check out the latest promo video:
So, what’s our reasoning for thinking that Laurel may still be alive? Well the official synopsis to start. It reads: “A recent Black Canary sighting in Star City only seems to prove his theory that Laurel isn’t actually dead.” That seems straight forward right?
Not quite.
Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim told Collider:
No. We’ve done that. We’ve done a fake death before. We’re always trying to figure out the next way to do this. That fake-out where she was okay, and then she wasn’t, was our attempt to do a death that we haven’t done before.
Of course, this now begs the question, if Laurel is really and truly dead, who is the new Black Canary?
And what about the rest of Team Arrow? How are they coping?
Well, the short answer is pretty darn horribly, especially Diggle. Oliver’s (Stephen Ammel) longest ally was hit hardest in the last episode after losing both Laurel and learning that his brother Andy was actually a spy for Darhk. Let’s just say it’s not going to be a good episode for Diggle.
Meanwhile, Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) is expected to rejoin Team Arrow after walking away following her breakup with Oliver. Her return is, in large part, because of the loss of Laurel. Producer Wendy Mericle told Collider
I can tell you that it will definitely have a big impact on her character. If you think about Felicity and what she would do, in the wake of something like this, than I will leave you to draw your own conclusions. You’ll find out in Episode 19. Everyone is going to be compelled to try to fix this and figure out what happened, and get revenge on the people who did it.
This return also has fans thinking about a restart to the Olicity storyline that broke our hearts earlier this season. It won’t be sudden, of course, but this may be a building block for the characters to get back on track. Thank goodness.
Arrow will return to The CW on Wednesday, April 7 at 8 p.m. ET
