Leto — whose last role was as Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club (2013) — spoke to Entertainment Weekly on March 31 about the complexities that go with playing the Joker.

The work that’s been done on this character by so many people before me has been so impactful, so incredible, so much fun, so profound, so risky, that it’s a very special thing to be asked to take on that responsibility.

“I haven’t formulated a lot of my thoughts on this yet,” Leto added.

On April 1, Birth.Movies.Death. reported that Suicide Squad director Ayer is in the process of reshooting scenes. The reshoots are being done in order to “alter the tone of the film” to bring “in some more lightness,” reported the site.

That same day, Digital Spy reported that the verbal lashing that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice received was the catalyst for Suicide Squad‘s pending changes. Furthermore, the positive response that SS got from it’s trailer led Warner Bros. to make the alteration.

Suicide Squad is slated for release on August 5, 2016. Be sure to check back with Heavy for all the latest movie updates.
