Marvel’s The Punisher: Season 1 Coming Soon Jon Bernthal made a bloody strong impression when he burst onto the scene as Frank Castle aka The Punisher in the second season of Daredevil. Netflix and Marvel will further explore his character in a solo project with Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal serving as an executive producer and showrunner as well as writing the show’s first two episodes. “F or me, the complexity and unpredictability of Frank Castle make him an incredibly compelling character and I couldn’t be more excited to dive into his world,” Lightfoot told Marvel.com. “After watching Jon’s performance in Marvel’s Daredevil I could not be more excited to be working with him to further develop and progress the story of this anti-hero in a show of his own.” Frank Castle is a military veteran who spent most of Daredevil’s second second trying to mow down a trio of street gangs that gunned down his family in a turf war. The Punisher has no qualms about killing the bad guys to deter crime in Hell’s Kitchen whereas Daredevil prefers to bring them to justice in a court of law
Bernthal will reprise his role for the new series. For Daredevil, he worked out with friends in the military and “trained a lot with weapons" to prepare for the role, but he also had to go to “as dark of place as possible” for the character, he told Entertainment Weekly. “What was important was the emptiness inside him. He’s dealing with this unbelievable loss. There’s unbelievable anger and hatred and shame,” he said. Netflix has not announced a premiere date for The Punisher. (Netflix)
