Netflix will debut its latest reboot, the animated series Voltron: Legendary Defender, on Friday, June 10. The new original series will hit the streaming service at 3 a.m. ET/12:00 a.m. PT.
From DreamWorks Animation, Voltron: Legendary Defender is about five unsuspecting teenagers who are transported from Earth into the middle of a sprawling intergalactic war and become pilots for five robotic lions in the battle to protect the universe from evil, according to Netflix’s synopsis. Only through the true power of teamwork can they unite to form the mighty warrior known as Voltron: Legendary Defender.
Joaquim Dos Santos serves as the executive producer with co-executive producer Lauren Montgomery. They both come from Nickelodeon’s The Legend of Korra. The voice cast includes Steven Yeun (Glenn from The Walking Dead), Jeremy Shada, Bex Taylor-Klaus, (from MTV’s Scream), Josh Keaton, Tyler Labine (from Hulu’s Deadbeat), Kimberly Brooks, Rhys Darby, Neil Kaplan and Cree Summer.
The original TV series, Voltron, created by Peter Keefe, ran from 1984 to 1987. It was the No. 1 syndicated children’s show for two years. It also inspired several spinoffs and introduced American audience to Japanese anime that became more popular with shows like Dragon Ball Z, Power Rangers and Pokémon.
