According to Page Six, Bill Cosby has suffered from Keratoconus for years and now he has gone completely blind. Keratoconus is a condition that causes the corneas in the eyes to bulge. It’s a progressive eye disease that can be treated with glasses early on, but advanced stages may require a cornea transplant, according to Google. Vision loss is one of the symptoms of the disease, but All About Vision states that those suffering from the disease do not go totally blind. However, their vision may become so impaired that they have difficulty leading a normal life.
An insider told Page Six that:
He has been suffering from a degenerative eye disease and is completely blind . . . All his Hollywood friends have turned their backs on him. He is confined to his house in Pennsylvania, and the only person on his side is his wife, Camille, who is masterminding his defense. His only friends are the small army of lawyers on his payroll.
In January, one of Cosby’s lawyers, Monique Pressley, commented on Cosby’s mug shot to Page Six, explaining:
He’s a 78-year-old blind man who they’ve chosen to charge. That’s not a defense to a charge, that’s just a fact.
Throughout the past few months, when Cosby has had to appear in court, he has been led into buildings with a person on either arm of his. That was another sign that his sight was deteriorating.
Currently, Cosby is waiting to stand trial, facing three counts of felony aggravated indecent assault from a case involving Andrea Constand in 2004.
