The Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy has been dominated by ABC’s Modern Family so far this decade. But that all changed in 2015, when HBO‘s political comedy Veep finally came out from under the family sitcom’s shadow and it repeated in 2016. Modern Family failed to return to the top.
Five of the seven nominees this year were up for the award last year. The new nominees are Netflix’s Master of None and ABC’s Black-ish.
In addition to Veep and Modern Family, the other returning nominees are HBO’s Silicon Valley, Amazon‘s Transparent and Netflix‘s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Yes, three of the seven nominees are from streaming outlets.
Modern Family is still tied for the all-time record for most wins in the category. It’s currently tied with Fraiser, which won from 1994 to 1998.
Do you think Modern Family will make a comeback? Or does Veep keep its crown? Will an underdog take the Emmy? You can vote below.
