After a pilot that introduced dread and darkness to the once-colorful world of Archie Comics, Riverdale is back with another ominously-titled episode. “Chapter Two: A Touch of Evil,” which references the legendary Orson Welles noir film right in the title, debuts on The CW at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday, February 2. Here’s a preview of the new episode.
In “Chapter One: The River’s Edge,” new high school student Veronica Lodge came to Riverdale, only to find the entire city shrouded by the cloud of Jason Blossom’s murder. Even Archie Andrews knows something about Jason’s death that others don’t, but he can’t reveal the secret because he would also have to reveal his affair with music teacher Mrs. Grundy. The affair also throws a wrench into the classic Archie Comics love triangle between Betty, Veronica and Archie.
Meanwhile, Jughead Jones isn’t the cheery character we know from the comics either. In “A Touch of Evil,” we’ll learn that Archie ditched Jughead during the summer, when they were supposed to go on a road trip.
At the end of the first episode, Jason’s body was finally discovered – just as the new school year started. His sister, Cheryl, is still dealing with her brother’s death, especially since she was with him when he died in the river.
