The anticipated documentary Bill Cosby: An American Scandal air tonight on Investigation Discovery. The documentary coincides with Cosby’s trial for allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting former Temple University employee Andrea Constand in 2004. Bill Cosby: An American Scandal will start at 9:00 p.m. ET on Monday, June 5, 2017. Read on to learn about the documentary and what it entails.
An American Scandal chronicles Cosby’s journey from young comedian to one of the most beloved entertainers in the world, dominating film, children’s cartoons, standup comedy, and television. As to be expected, it will also delve into Cosby’s personal downfall, and, according to executive producer Pamela Deutsch, shed new light on his current trial:
“There will be new information as we hope to explore how this person who was just universally revered could have been leading this double life. At this point people have heard the stories about all of the various women that have come forward, so we wanted to put it in context. Sometimes when this stuff plays out everyday in the news we often lose site of the bigger picture, so we’re giving our viewers who are following the story a capsulized form of the situation. We’ll look at the things that he has endured behind the scenes – the rape allegations surrounding his daughter; the death of his son; his [alleged] illegitimate daughter, Autumn [Jackson] and his relationship with her mother. We’re really hoping to look at some of the people in his inner circle to kind of figure out how and why we’re arrived at this point.”
The documentary will interview those who know Cosby, including biographer Ronald L. Smith, attorney Gloria Allred, and Shawn Brown, a woman who claims to have had an affair with Cosby until she too was drugged and assaulted in 1973. In an ID preview (watch above), Brown recounts her harrowing experience with The Cosby Show actor: “The night that the tone of the relationship changed for me was the night that I went up to his house in Beverly Hills that he was renting off of Canon Drive, and he had fixed me a drink. No matter where we went in the house he kept carrying this drink with him, saying ‘Here, drink this, drink this. I kept saying ‘I don’t want anymore.”
Deutsch adds that An American Scandal will not presume Cosby’s guilt or innocence, but rather to “answer some of the whys and how this could have happened.” ID will air reruns on Tuesday, June 6th, and Saturday, June 10th, at 12:00 a.m. ET and 8:00 a.m. ET, respectively.
