Seth Rogen was on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Monday night promoting the second season of Preacher, which he helped create and produces. And while Rogen and Colbert eventually did get around talking about the show, they opened up with a casual discussion about good old Twitter, specifically the science of direct messages.
See, a few months ago Rogen learned that none other than Donald Trump Jr., son of President Donald Trump, follows him on Twitter. That means that if Rogen were to follow Trump Jr. back, he would now be able to reach out to him privately, slide into his DM’s if you will. Of course just hitting him up via DM out of the blue could be considered rude. So first Rogen decided to reach out to Trump Jr. publicly with a simple, modest request.
Yo! @DonaldJTrumpJr! I noticed you follow me on Twitter. Please ask your dad to resign before he destroys the planet. Thanks dude.
Sadly, Trump Jr. didn’t respond, despite Rogen’s casual approach. That’s when Rogen took to direct messaging the First Son.
“Hey man! It’s Seth. Your father is trying to discredit our media, collude with Russia, and destroy the environment. It would be super of you to be like ‘yo dad, why don’t you stop all this and go back to being just a guy on TV.’ The majority of the world would be pretty psyched. Thanks!!”
Rogen again employed a casual approach, but again didn’t receive a response. On Monday night, Rogen admitted to sending another message to Trump Jr., this one a late night DM that started “Hey man, don’t mean to come across as a weirdo…” and to no one’s surprise, that one went unanswered as well. Let’s be honest, it doesn’t matter who is messaging you. If a message starts with “don’t mean to come across as a weirdo,” you stop reading, delete that message and move on.
Colbert wanted in on the action because as luck would have it, Trump Jr. follows him as well.
Just to make sure Trump Jr. knew that was all legit, Rogen again sent a direct message to Trump Jr., hoping that perhaps an introduction of sorts would open some doors and get a conversation started.
Still nothing…
Yes, still nothing. Perhaps someone like Chris Pratt, Aziz Ansari, Terrell Owens or Jon Oliver (all people Trump Jr. follow) would have better luck.
As of mid-morning on Tuesday, Trump Jr. has yet to respond, publicly at least, to either Rogen or Colbert.
